2027 Chevrolet Corvette Gets A Bigger V8 As Fuel Economy Barely Changes

Not As Thirsty As Expected

Great fuel economy is not usually expected from high-performance sports cars, but the numbers are still useful for things like estimating fuel costs on a trip. For those considering the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray or the new Grand Sport, the upside is that the new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 does not appear to bring a major fuel-efficiency penalty despite the increase in horsepower, at least in Canada.

According to GM Authority, Natural Resources Canada, which publishes fuel-efficiency ratings for vehicles sold north of the border, has released figures for the 2027 Corvette Stingray and Grand Sport. The highway rating remains unchanged at 9.4 liters/100 km, or 25 mpg. However, city consumption has increased slightly from 15.1 liters/100 km (15.6 mpg) to 15.7 liters/100 km (15 mpg). As a result, the combined rating now stands at 12.9 liters/100 km, or 18.2 mpg.

More Punch At The Pump

While these figures are specific to Canada, Natural Resources Canada’s ratings can still offer a useful preview of what to expect from the EPA in the United States. However, fuel-economy figures for the Grand Sport X have reportedly not yet been released, although its hybrid powertrain could help improve efficiency.

The Grand Sport X is essentially the E-Ray under a new name, likely to avoid buyers mistaking it for an all-electric version of the Corvette, which doesn't exist.

For the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X, the LT2 will be replaced by the new LS6 naturally aspirated V8, which produces 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. That represents an increase of up to 40 hp and 50 lb-ft of torque over the outgoing engine.

The 2027 C8 Lineup

The new Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X will arrive later this year with starting prices of $88,495 and $112,195, respectively. The base Corvette Stingray, equipped with the new LS6 engine, will also see a $1,000 price increase to $73,495.

The next trim in the lineup, the track-focused Corvette Z06 with a 670-horsepower 5.5-liter LT6 V8, will benefit from a $1,400 price reduction, bringing its starting price to $121,395. Meanwhile, the more extreme ZR1 and ZR1X will see price increases to $197,195, up $9,700, and $227,395, up $15,200, respectively.
