2027 Chevrolet Corvette Turns Three V8s Into Three Very Different Cars

General Motors is introducing a new engine to the C8 Corvette lineup with the 6.7-liter LS6 V8. However, it will not significantly shake up the engine range for MY2027, as it is simply replacing the LT2. Still, GM has given each Corvette engine its own distinct personality, adding context beyond its factory power output.

The LS6, coming to the Stingray and Grand Sport, makes 535 horsepower, 40 more than the outgoing LT2. GM engineer Mike Kociba said the engine leans into the “old-school big-displacement punch that Corvette owners know and love,” delivering strong low-end torque while still offering the top-end power needed for track days.

The Grand Sport X, essentially the successor to the E-Ray, will also use the LS6 but pair it with an electric motor to produce a combined 721 horsepower.

The Heart of the Lineup

Moving to the Corvette Z06, the 5.5-liter naturally aspirated LT6 V8 is described as an “emotional engine.” With 670 horsepower, it is already the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in a production car, surpassing models like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series and Ferrari 458. But GM is also emphasizing its character, with engineer Dustin Gardner calling it the “track scalpel choice” for its sharp, track-focused nature.

The third and most potent engine in the 2027 Corvette lineup is the LT7, which is based on the LT6 but adds twin turbochargers. In the Corvette ZR1, it produces 1,064 horsepower, while the ZR1X pairs it with an electric motor for a combined 1,250 horsepower, making it the most powerful Corvette ever.

Gardner said the LT7 is the go-to choice for those who want “most of the LT6’s character” but with “no-compromise torque and power that’s off the charts.” He also recalled the engine’s development, noting that the dyno shut down during testing because the team had “overpowered” it.

Corvette's Value Proposition

The 2027 Corvette Stingray will start at $73,495, representing a $1,000 increase over the current model year. The new Grand Sport and Grand Sport X will carry starting prices at $88,945 and $112,195, respectively.

The Corvette Z06 will benefit from a $1,400 price reduction, bringing its starting price to $121,395. Meanwhile, the Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X will start at $197,195 (up $9,700) and $227,395 ($15,200).

Given its pricing, the C8 Corvette is widely regarded as a value supercar, capable of challenging models like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale that cost significantly more. A Corvette ZR1X even beat a 1,500-horsepower Bugatti Chiron in a quarter-mile race, courtesy of Vehicle Virgins.
