Chevrolet has unveiled the 2027 Silverado 1500, the new generation of the full-size pickup and the closest challenger to the popular Ford F-150 on the sales charts. This remains one of the largest auto segments in the U.S. and covers everything from rugged work trucks to dedicated off-road monsters and luxurious range-toppers. The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado will cater to all these customers and make its strongest case yet against the iconic F-150. With butch looks, a more tech-heavy interior, and a new generation of V8 engines, could this finally be the truck to end Ford’s decades-long dominance?
Familiar Silverado Looks
2027 Chevrolet Silverado
Chevrolet
At a glance, the 2027 Silverado looks a lot like the outgoing model. It still has plenty of presence, but the details have been refined. There are new LED headlights and taillights and the wheel opening moldings are more pronounced than before. Trim differentiation remains strong. On upscale High Country models, there’s a Tritan Satin grille, 22-inch machined wheels, and more polished trim elements. By contrast, the rugged ZR2 gets an off-road hood with a new power dome and 35-inch mud-terrain tires.
“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak said.
The full-size pickup segment isn’t the place to go looking for revolutionary design. Familiarity and brand recognition matter more to these customers, so we’d say Chevrolet has achieved its goal with the new model.
Refreshed, Connected Interior
Chevrolet
A new digital cockpit greets buyers inside the 2027 Silverado. A 16.3-inch touchscreen and 12.2-inch digital driver’s display are standard, while ZR2 and High Country models receive an 11.5-inch front passenger screen that sets new standards in this class. A heads-up display and rear camera mirror create over 60 inches of digital displays in these top models.
Chevrolet has balanced more technology with the versatility expected of a large pickup. Dual wireless charging slots are available, as is Super Cruise with hands-free towing; it’s the only truck in its class to offer hands-free towing. To help cope with all the paraphernalia that comes with moving around a family, there’s a reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console.
2027 Chevrolet Silverado High Country
Chevrolet
The High Country is once again the highlight. It comes with a panoramic sunroof, a first for the Silverado, along with real wood decor and available microfiber suede inserts. Light and dark color themes are available for this variant. To reflect the sportier side of the ZR2, it gets Torch Red interior accents and forged carbon-fiber trim. There are also Torch Red accents inside the Trail Boss, which offers enhanced off-roading capabilities without stepping up to the hardcore ZR2.
A Diverse Range of Powertrains
Chevrolet
To cater to a variety of buyers, Chevrolet will once again offer four powertrain options, including two new V8s. Here’s a summary of the engine choices:
- 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder turbo
- 3.0-liter DuraMax six-cylinder turbodiesel
- 5.7-liter V8
- 6.6-liter V8
Chevrolet has yet to share full specifications, but has claimed the 2027 Silverado now has the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 in the segment. The enhanced TurboMax mill, meanwhile, has the most standard torque in the class.
Previous rumors indicate an output of 400 horsepower for the new 5.7L small-block V8, around 45 hp more than the current 5.3L V8. For the 6.6L V8, an output of 475 hp is anticipated, which is 55 hp more than the existing 6.2L L87 V8. No hybrid option was mentioned, so buyers wanting such a pickup will have to consider alternatives from Ford and Toyota for now.
“We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability and dependability Silverado customers expect,” said Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer. “From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”
Chevy has also confirmed the fitment of a new 10-speed automatic for TurboMax models, replacing the previous eight-speeder.

Improved Off-Road Fighters
Chevrolet
Off-road fans are unlikely to be disappointed with the new Silverado. Although it doesn’t have a direct alternative to the top F-150 Raptor, the Trail Boss and ZR2 are formidable off-roaders.
Lower down in the range, the improved Trail Boss comes with the following extras:
- 34-inch MT tires
- Two-inch factory lift
- Dedicated off-road hood
- Torch Red interior accents
Chevrolet
Buyers who want to unlock even more capability should go for the 2027 Silverado ZR2, which offers the following updates:
- 35-inch MT tires
- Two-inch lift
- Standard front/rear e-lockers
- Desert race-proven Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce dampers
There will also be a new ZR2 Bison Edition, which adds front/rear AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, skid plates, and special badging.
2027 Silverado Pricing and Availability
Chevrolet
The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado will go on sale later this year at GM’s assembly plants in North America. The following complete trim lineup will be available:
- Work Truck
- Custom
- Silverado (formerly the LT)
- Trail Boss
- Custom Trail Boss
- High Country
- ZR2
Chevy has not yet disclosed pricing, but the 2026 model starts at $36,900. The new one should start at around $38,000-$39,000 when it arrives, although Chevy made no mention of the cheapest Regular Cab returning. Expect to pay well over $70,000 for the High Country and closer to $80k for the ZR2.
Why It Matters
Chevrolet
The arrival of any new-generation model in the full-size pickup segment is big news. When the 2027 Silverado arrives, Chevrolet will have the benefit of selling the newest vehicle in the category. Ford and Ram will no doubt respond with updates of their own—the new Ram 1500 looks like it will be a much more futuristic product than anything else in the gas-powered pickup category.
Until that happens, Chevrolet will want to capitalize on having the most standard V8 power and best tech in the segment. That could be enough to significantly eat into Ford’s lead on the sales charts.
