BMW Gives Its M Performance Cars A Blacked-Out Farewell

(0 reviews)

It won’t be long before BMW starts phasing out the current generation of the 3 Series, 4 Series Gran Coupe, and i4 Gran Coupe. These models will be replaced with Neue Klasse models, with the i3 having already been revealed. As usual, though, BMW is expected to release a few special editions of these models before they bow out. That’s where the new Black Package comes in, an option on M Performance models—the M340i, M340i Touring, M440i GC, and i4 M60 GC. The package will give these sporty models an even more distinctive look before they sail off into the sunset.

Models with the Black Package are only available when the M Sport Package Pro is selected too, which includes red M Sport brakes. Outside, these BMWs will receive exclusive model badging in black, located on the rear and sides of the body. They’ll also ride on black 19-inch M light alloy wheels, with alternative wheel options being available. On M440i and i4 M60 models, there’s also a new black model badge in the larger kidney grille. Despite the name, the package doesn’t limit buyers to black paint. The darker details can still be paired with brighter exterior shades such as Arctic Race Blue and Fire Red. The M340i is seen here in Skyscraper Gray, which contrasts nicely with the dark exterior trim.

Moving inside, the Black Package adds motorsport-inspired carbon fiber details, carbon fiber M trim, and a unique M leather steering wheel with carbon decorative trim. The carbon fiber trim looks especially good, giving the interior a feel that’s closer to the likes of the M3 and M4.

Pricing and Availability

In Germany, the Black Package costs €3,150 (around $3,664) for the M340i. Here’s a look at how much it’ll cost on the other variants:

  • M340i Touring (€2,500, around $2,900)
  • M440i Gran Coupe (€4,320, around $5,000)
  • I4 M60 Gran Coupe (€2,380, around $2,760)

For now, there’s no confirmation of the Black Package being made available outside Europe. The closest thing we have is the Shadowline Package for the M340i, but that’s a much more basic upgrade for $600.

We do expect BMW North America to give these models a proper send-off, though, particularly the G20 3 Series, which has been a great return to form for the iconic sedan. Although BMW sells far more SUVs than sedans in the U.S., it still moved 8,189 3 Series units in Q1 2026, a 10.2% increase over the same period last year. This remains a core model for the luxury marque and we expect the G20 to get the farewell it deserves before the new, gas-powered 3 Series arrives.
