Only a Matter of Time
We're starting to learn a little bit more about the upcoming electric M3. We know it's largely been previewed by the M Neue Klasse Concept, and that we can expect elements from that prototype to reach production. So far, the world premiere of the car hasn't been revealed, but it's safe to say that it's only a matter of time.
BMW is rather excited about its first-ever full-electric M model. Current M boss Sylvia Neuebauer is already telling skeptics to drive the car first before laying down any final judgments, saying, "Experience the car, and after that they can decide whether they like it or not."

Alleged Power Figures
At this point, there are people curious about how much power the battery-powered M3 will actually produce. So far, the ballpark figure is in the 800 horsepower range, which is quite a lot more than the outgoing gas-fed model. Now, a thread from Bimmerpost claims to have the output for the front and rear motors, and the numbers are pretty insane.
According to the thread, the rear motor alone makes 751 hp, while the front motor dishes out 644 hp. As for torque, it's claimed to make 752 lb-ft at the rear and 398 lb-ft at the front. Again, wild figures, but don't get too excited yet.

Not a Straight Computation
If we were to simply add the outputs, that means 1,395 hp and 1,150 lb-ft of torque. But the thing about EVs is that it's never a straightforward computation. Some factors include battery and inverter limits, peak power timing, mechanical resistance, and thermal management. The total always looks impressive, but never the actual figure when combined.
Still, that doesn't eliminate the possibility that the electric M3 can make over 1,000 hp. Even if you factor in hardware limitations, it's likely that it won't be too far off the near-1,400 hp total. Then again, BMW could surprise us all by combining the figures as is. If so, the electric M3 will punch out even more power than the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door and the highly controversialFerrari Luce.
In the meantime, we wait for the final number, and BMW is keeping us on our toes with this new model. And for those who have shut down the prospect of liking the electric M3, rest assured, the pure combustion model is also on the way.
