China's New Hybrid Pickup Looks Like A Land Cruiser And Targets The Ford Ranger

(0 reviews)

The global midsize pickup truck market is getting aggressively competitive, and China's latest entry is turning heads by borrowing some very familiar styling cues. Meet the Jetour Zongheng F700, a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) from Chery’s adventure-focused sub-brand, as detailed by CarNewsChina. If its rugged front end looks instantly recognizable, that’s because the blocky headlights and bold grille quite obviously resemble the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Built To Dwarf The Ford Ranger

Aimed squarely at international midsize heavyweights like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and the BYD Shark 6, the Zongheng F700 features a massive footprint. According to filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the truck measures 216.3 inches long with a sprawling 131.9-inch wheelbase. That makes it noticeably larger than the standard midsize trucks sitting in American driveways today.

Tapping into the massive overlanding trend, Jetour’s new pickup features black plastic body cladding and sculpted fenders. The company is actively showcasing it, loaded with outdoor-ready accessories, including a rooftop tent, metal cargo racks, a snorkel, and auxiliary LED lighting.

A Potential 800 Horsepower Powertrain

Under the skin, the F700 utilizes a proper truck foundation: a ladder-frame chassis with a double-wishbone front and a coil-sprung rear suspension. Power comes from a gasoline PHEV system built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine generating 208 horsepower on its own. While Jetour hasn't released the combined hybrid output yet, the same brand's G700 SUV utilizes a similar PHEV system to pump out a staggering 892 horsepower and 837 lb-ft of torque.

The powertrain is backed by a CATL Shenxing battery pack that boasts lightning-fast charging—capable of juicing from 20% to 80% in just 10 minutes. Fully fueled and charged, the truck claims an estimated combined range of 808 miles on China’s highly optimistic CLTC testing cycle.

High-Tech Cabin Design

Inside, Jetour takes a page out of BMW’s futuristic playbook, incorporating a pillar-to-pillar digital display spanning the base of the windshield. A massive free-standing infotainment touchscreen dominates the dash, but traditionalists will be happy to know that physical buttons remain on the center console for crucial controls.

The Jetour Zongheng F700 will officially debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show this November before hitting the Chinese domestic market and international export channels. Due to current trade policies, you won't see this Land Cruiser-doppelgänger on American roads, but it proves Chinese automakers are relentlessly targeting the global midsize and off-road truck segments.
