Dodge Charger Buyers Get Purple Haze Paint While They Wait For The V8

(0 reviews)

The 2027 Dodge Charger is giving the people what they want, albeit not everything they want just yet. According to Dodge CEO Matt McAlear, Dodge customers "want to stand out" with special colors, and as the Charger nameplate celebrates 60 years since its debut in 1966, it's getting access to a bold new Purple Haze paint finish flashy enough for most supercar owners. But instead of costing tens of thousands of dollars, this limited-edition paint has an MSRP of $795. Dodge says the glossy finish shifts in the sunlight and becomes a deeper purple in the shade, and to see what the automaker means, a Dodge Charger Scat Pack will show off the new hue, a first-ever color for both model and manufacturer, at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals over the weekend of July 10-12.

Several Colors and New Decals for the 2027 Charger

If you like Purple Haze, you can also add dual Fratzog stripes, 10 different Mopar stripes and graphics packages, and a hood painted satin black if you've gone for a 550-horsepower SIXPACK-powered version like the Scat Pack (turbo-six or all-electric Daytona Scat Packs also get access to the new Petrol Blue leather interior). If painting the whole hood black is excessive, you can also opt for a smaller hood patch. But when you're buying a muscle car, the base color is arguably more important than the graphics, and according to Stellantis, exciting High Impact colors are more important to muscle car buyers than others in the full-size segment - just as tends to be the case in the sports car niche - and on the Charger, "it's a top-three purchase driver." As before, buyers of the 2027 Charger still have access to Bludicrous, Green Machine, Redeye, Sub-Zero, White Knuckle, and Diamond Black. That's all good and well, but what about the other thing that matters to muscle car buyers?

Still No V8 for the Dodge Charger... Yet

When news regarding the 2027 Charger hit my inbox, I was hoping there might be a hint at imminent V8 power hiding somewhere in the press release, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case, and the Dodge configurator is still only listing the 2026 Charger, not the 2027 model in question here (so no pricing yet, sorry). However, there's no reason to be dismayed, as Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis hinted at something exciting appearing at Roadkill Nights on August 8. Moreover, a supercharged HEMI V8 with over 700 horsepower has been confirmed by media previews of a new Charger variant, presumably getting the same 777 hp as the Ram 1500 SRT TRX. This is said to be sprouting a big Daytona-esque rear wing for maximum aesthetic and aerodynamic impact. And besides that, there's a new Copperhead SRT "hyper muscle car" coming, so we just have to be patient a little while longer.
