GM Is Racing In IndyCar, F1 And NASCAR On The Same Huge Weekend

(0 reviews)

A Weekend To Remember

The weekend before Memorial Day is packed full of racing events. Some manufacturers are squarely focused on one, while others might have two to worry about; however, GM appears to be in three, and is really proud of it.

GM announced in one of its press releases how it's heading to three major racing events: The Indianapolis 500, the Formula 1 Lenovo Canadian Grand Prix, and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600. All events will be running in succession by multiple teams fielded or supplied by General Motors themselves.

Indy 500, F1, and NASCAR

The field of Indianapolis is more GM than any other brand. More than half of the grid is powered by Chevrolet engines. A total of 33 cars will be on the grid this Sunday, and with more than half sporting Chevy engines, GM has a good chance of getting one, two, or even three of its engines on top of the podium this weekend.

Meanwhile, in Canada, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will be participating at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal. This will be the first time that the Cadillac F1 team will line up at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Last but not least, the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 will be held in Charlotte. Again, GM-supplied teams will be aiming for the top spots this weekend with their Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 stock cars.

Not the First Time

A triple-threat weekend isn't new to GM. Since 2012, around this time of year, GM has participated in these events every year, with achievements to boot.

"The scale and the breadth of our footprint will really be on display this weekend,” says Eric Warren, Vice President of Global Motorsport Competition at GM. “It demonstrates our deep racing heritage. This isn’t just a side activity: we’re competing to win at the top levels of motorsports all at the same time. I really believe that’s what makes GM unique.”

Eric Warren's job is to see opportunities and to ensure that GM ends up at the top of the heap after all is said and done. Decision-making and team forming are all in his job description, among a multitude of other tasks. This weekend will be one of many that the brand has done over the years.

More than just supplying engines, GM also works together with racing engineers to deliver top-tier performance in its racecars. Learnings are taken, and eventually trickle down to the end consumer, just like any other motorsports program. So, now that you know GM's in all these events, which one are you watching?
