Hyundai's New Palisade Now Costs Lexus TX Money

(0 reviews)

The Palisade steps into Lexus TX territory

The Hyundai Palisade has taken another step upmarket for the 2027 model year. A new range-topping trim has just been unveiled for the popular three-row crossover. This Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy Black Ink Edition builds upon the already comprehensive specification of the Calligraphy variant but gains stealthier styling elements. It also sees the price of the Palisade pushed further beyond the $60,000 mark than it’s ever been. Is it the perfect family SUV or a step too far for the Palisade?

This special Palisade is all about its moody styling. An array of blacked-out elements in a glossy finish complements the refined, almost futuristic design of the new generation. These black elements include the “H” Hyundai logo, upper windshield trim, front grille accents, roof rails, alloy wheels, and the active air flap. The exterior paint options are all grayscale and include Abyss Black pearl, Ecotronic Gray Pearl, and Creamy White Pearl. Overall, the Black Ink Edition does nothing to reverse the trend of buyers overwhelmingly choosing grayscale car colors over vibrant ones.

Inside, the dark theme continues, with the normal Calligraphy’s silver accents replaced with black ones. That extends to the steering wheel accents, door handles, speaker grilles, HVAC controls, center console bezels, and more.

Being the Calligraphy model, the Black Ink Edition is loaded with high-end features like Nappa leather upholstery, a head-up display, a dual panel sunroof, heated/ventilated seats in the first two rows, and highway driving assistance.

“Palisade has become a flagship for customers who want family utility without giving up a premium experience,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president, product planning and mobility strategy, Hyundai Motor North America. “Black Ink sharpens that promise. It adds more edge, more presence, and more distinction to a vehicle that already delivers the comfort, craftsmanship, and everyday ease that buyers value most.”

Powerful and Efficient Hybrid—At A Price

The hybrid powertrain in the Palisade combines a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and an electric motor. Combined, the system produces 329 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive optional, with both using a conventional six-speed automatic.

Not only is the Palisade Hybrid smooth and quiet, but the electric motor provides instant, effortless shove from a standstill. We also found it to ride beautifully without losing its composure in the corners. The bigger wheels of the top models make them a bit less efficient, with EPA-rated figures of 31/32/31 mpg city/highway/combined for FWD models and 29/30/29 mpg for AWD versions. That’s still a lot better than the V6-powered Palisade, which can only manage up to 21 mpg combined.

Pricing pushes the 2027 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy Black Ink Edition further upmarket. It starts at $59,280 with FWD and costs $61,280 with AWD, including the destination charge.

While it’s a fantastic family vehicle, those prices start overlapping with proper luxury SUVs like the Lexus TX.

What It Means

Hyundai

With the latest Santa Fe providing three-row versatility at a lower price point, Hyundai seems to be testing how far upmarket the Palisade can go. It’s doing the same with the Ioniq 9, which is also coming with a top-spec Black Ink version. Many will balk at the idea of spending over $60,000 on an SUV from Hyundai, but it does a fine impression of a premium SUV, from its powertrain to the indulgent interior. For anyone willing to forgo the prestige of driving an SUV with a luxury badge, the Hyundai is worth considering.
