Jaguar is officially re-entering the market with its flagship EV. The automaker has confirmed, during its annual "investor day" presentation, that its upcoming ultra-luxury electric grand tourer will be badged the Type 01, to be unveiled at a high-stakes global debut in New York this October.

When the Type 01 finally reaches American showrooms in the first half of 2027, it will break an agonizing 18-month production drought. Jaguar effectively halted its core assembly lines following the discontinuation of the F-Pace SUV last December, leaving its retail network to survive on dwindling legacy inventory while the company engineered its drastic pivot upmarket.
At the core of this rebirth strategy is the bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). While Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) recently capitulated to market realities by introducing hybrid alternatives for its smaller EMA platform, which are holding the line on pure electric power for the flagship Type 01. JLR Chief Commercial Officer Leonard Hoornik and CEO PB Balaji have explicitly stated that the aggressive performance metrics demanded by this new grand tourer—specifically, an output exceeding 1,000 horsepower—simply cannot be achieved with combustion or hybrid drivetrains.

Buyers can expect initial sticker prices to open around the $150,000 mark (converting from the roughly £120,000 UK base), climbing well past $190,000 for heavily optioned, bespoke specifications. Choosing New York for the official reveal, following the concept's prior debut in Miami, signals exactly where JLR expects this massive financial bet to pay off, deliberately ignoring recent rollbacks in US emissions legislation.
The nomenclature is a calculated anchor to the brand's history. The "Type" designation leans heavily on Jaguar’s mid-century motorsport pedigree, directly invoking the Le Mans-winning C-Type, D-Type, and iconic E-Type. Meanwhile, the numerical suffix is strictly functional: "0" for zero emissions, and "1" marking the first vehicle of the brand's overhaul. Industry tracking suggests subsequent JEA-based models—likely a full-size SUV and a flagship limousine—will adopt the Type 02 and Type 03 badges.
