A New Chapter for JLR in North America
JaguarLand Rover has its sights set on North America, and it looks like big changes are brewing. What we know so far is that JLR wants to beef up its US presence with a little help from Stellantis. If all goes to plan, we might even see Stellantis-based, Defender-badged models built just for American tastes.
The timing here is hard to ignore. As the Stellantis partnership begins to take shape, JLR North America is also replacing its top boss.
Eberhardt, who’s been steering the JLR ship in the US and Canada since 2013, is officially out. That makes him one of the longest-serving auto bosses in North America, and his exit comes just as JLR gears up for what could be a whole new era.
Eberhardt Exits After Nearly 13 Years
According to Automotive News, Eberhardt has left the company "to pursue new opportunities" after nearly 13 years leading JLR's North American business.
A spokesperson for JLR confirmed the move and noted that Eberhardt will not be completely disappearing from the picture. The company said that he will continue supporting JLR in a consultancy role through the end of 2026, with a particular focus on the automaker's developing relationship with Stellantis.
While Eberhardt was in charge, JLR rolled out a bunch of new models, including the hit Range Rover Evoque. Land Rover sales held steady, even with the usual grumbling about quality and resale value.
For now, JLR’s Chief Growth Officer Lennard Hoornik is stepping in as the interim boss while the hunt for a permanent replacement gets underway.

Why Stellantis Matters
Eberhardt’s exit comes hot on the heels of reports that JLR is getting cozier with Stellantis as part of a bigger North American play. It’s a sign of shifting priorities at JLR. North America now pulls more weight for the brand than China, where Western luxury automakers are struggling with soft demand and tough local competition.
With a new boss to find and fresh products in the pipeline, JLR’s North American arm is heading into a transition that could set the tone for years ahead.
