Next Hyundai Kona Interior Spied With Ioniq 3 Screens And Physical Controls

Hyundai is clearly focusing its future design on software, integrated screens, and a cleaner cabin. The Ioniq 3 is a clear example of this, especially inside, where a large infotainment system runs on the Pleos Connect platform.

Not everything is moving to touchscreens, though. Hyundai says the frequently used controls will still be physical. Even so, the main display is set to take center stage, handling navigation, media, connectivity, and other key functions.

The next Kona looks set to follow this approach. Spy shots from Automatta_ show a prototype with a dashboard layout nearly identical to the Ioniq 3, including a large center screen and a separate digital cluster behind the wheel.

What to Expect From the Next Kona

Hyundai is skipping a typical mid-cycle update and instead making bigger structural and styling changes for the SX3-generation Kona. The aim is to give the subcompact SUV a more premium feel, but without losing its mainstream appeal.

Based on previous sightings, we expect the next Kona’s exterior to look more rugged, likely taking design cues from Hyundai’s latest concepts. The front end should appear wider than before, with a taller hood and full-width lighting replacing the current split-light design. Pixel-style lighting is almost assured, at least in the higher trims.

Inside, a bridge-style center console and a column shifter should open up more storage. Larger screens and ambient lighting could make the cabin feel more like a Tucson or Santa Fe than an entry-level crossover. Hybrid power is set to become more important, possibly using the 1.6-liter hybrid from Kia for better efficiency and more EV-like driving.

Familial Rivalry Could Get Interesting

Unfortunately, the next Kona’s toughest rival might be its own cousin. The new Kia Seltos, which has already won over those who have driven one, now offers more cabin space, updated styling, hybrid power, larger screens, and more premium features. Since both share the same platform, direct comparisons are inevitable.

Then again, it will all boil down to taste and personality. The Seltos leans into rugged, Telluride-inspired looks and practicality. The Kona is likely to focus on tech and align more closely with the Ioniq family. Those who are looking for a small crossover will have to choose between two very different takes on what modern means.
