Porsche 911 Gets A Buzz Lightyear Makeover For Toy Story 5

(0 reviews)

Inspired by Pixar Icons

Normally, Porsche's one-off projects pay tribute to racing legends, classic cars, or the occasional celebrity. This time, though, they're taking inspiration from a Pixar icon.

To celebrate Toy Story 5, Porsche has teamed up with Disney and Pixar to build three custom 911s inspired by Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie. The partnership was announced in April, and now Porsche is teasing us with behind-the-scenes shots of the Buzz Lightyear car as it takes shape.

We don't get to see the finished car yet, but the photos give us a peek at just how much effort is going into what might be one of the strangest Sonderwunsch builds in recent memory.

Buzz Lightyear's Influence Is Already Easy To Spot

Even with most of the car still under wraps, it's impossible to miss where the inspiration comes from. Teaser shots show technicians painstakingly laying down graphics and paint by hand, with that unmistakable lime-green-and-purple combo straight out of Buzz Lightyear's closet. One shot shows a 'Lightyear' stencil, while another reveals a half-finished body panel with black-and-yellow warning stripes circling an air intake.

There's even a 'Space Ranger' graphic with a winged badge that looks ready to land on the finished car. With all these bold colors and details, Porsche isn't just slapping on a themed paint job – it’s building a car that could pass for Buzz's official Star Command ride.

Other shots show off the hands-on work: a tech peeling off masking tape from a freshly painted panel, another buffing a body section to a shine. Porsche even shared photos of paint being mixed and custom graphics in the works, just to remind us these cars are being built the old-fashioned way, not just rolling off an assembly line.

A Different Kind Of Sonderwunsch Project

This wild build is coming together under Porsche's Sonderwunsch program – German for 'special wish.' It's the division that handles the most personalized commissions, with loads of hand-finishing, custom paint, rare materials, and one-off touches.

Pixar's Bob Pauley says the goal wasn't just to slap cartoon characters onto a sports car. Instead, the teams worked on turning each character's personality into colors, materials, and shapes, all while staying true to the originals.

Buzz Lightyear's 911 won't be flying solo for long. Porsche says Woody and Jessie-inspired Porsche 911 sports cars are also in the works, and all three will hit the red carpet at the Toy Story 5 premiere in LA before the movie drops on June 19.

After the promo tour wraps up, all three cars will be auctioned off together to raise money for charities that help kids and families in need.
