Rivian’s Most Exciting EV Is Still Years Away

(0 reviews)

The Choice Is Yours

To be really considered a mainstream brand, you must be able to cater to the majority of the market. This means that a brand should have different models that cover the segments that are either in demand or emerging.

Rivian has been slowly expanding its model lineup, beginning with the massive and pricey R1 and recently launching the more affordable R2. The next is said to be a model for enthusiasts: Rivian's way of swaying drivers toward its products.

The R3X Arrival

The Drive secured an exclusive interview with Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, who shed light on when the R3X will officially go on sale. During the podcast, Scaringe was asked how soon we can expect the R3X. He was candid enough to say the new model is coming, and he quickly followed up by stating it's a couple of years away at the very least.

Scaringe adds that Rivian has a very clear timeline for the R3X but hasn't publicly announced it yet. Fans are already speculating across social media and forums, saying they hope Rivian makes it long enough for the R3X to arrive. While Scaringe didn't confirm anything, he didn't shy away from denying anything either; his statements clearly point to an imminent launch.

Rivian

Enthusiast Product

Rivian is pretty much known for getting new products out on the dates they announce, which is no easy feat in today's world, especially for a relatively small automaker like Rivian. However, they could be biding their time until the company's Georgia production facility completes its upgrades and expansion to better cater to the growing demand for the recently launched R2 and the new R3.

Speculation is rife about the R3X, but based on the looks we've seen, it takes many design cues from retro hot hatches, with some inspiration from the rallying world. Specs-wise, there are no confirmed figures yet, but it'll likely be a performance-oriented powertrain with a 0-60 mph time of around 3 seconds. In terms of range, the R3X will likely have over 300 miles.
