Someone Turned An Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Into A 750-HP DTM Throwback

(0 reviews)

The Ultimate Backward Restomod

The classic car community routinely witnesses vintage platforms upgraded with modern engineering. We regularly marvel at magnificent creations like Theon Design's bespoke Porsche commissions or exquisite carbon-fiber lightweight custom 911 builds. However, an ambitious Italian startup, SGT Automobili, is completely flipping this script. Instead of modernizing an old chassis, they have taken a modern sport sedan and reverse-engineered it into a legendary touring car icon.

Dubbed the 55-SGT, this striking creation pays homage to the legendary Alfa Romeo 155 DTM that dominated European touring car racing in 1993. Underneath the aggressive retro bodywork sits the bones of the brilliant contemporary Giulia Quadrifoglio. This ingenious approach delivers the evocative nostalgia of a classic racer alongside the reliability of 21st-century engineering. It is an audacious vision that fundamentally redefines the traditional boundaries of custom car builds.

Under the Lightweight Skin of the 55-SGT

SGT Automobili completely re-engineered the donor vehicle to achieve its uncompromising performance goals. The bodywork features a specialized blend of carbon fiber, Kevlar, and high-tech carbotitanium. Stripping away the rear doors and deleting luxury cabin components reduced the overall curb weight to a nimble 3,285 lbs in its lightest specification. The track-focused cockpit gains a robust roll cage and bucket seats while retaining functional air conditioning and protective airbags.

The modifications to the powertrain are equally profound. While the donor vehicle already features an incredible engine, recent global market updates mean that refreshed 520-hp factory Quadrifoglio variants are highly coveted and in short supply. SGT unlocks even more potential by upgrading the 2.9-liter V6 engine to output up to 620 hp across 3 custom engine maps. The flagship Trofeo specification incorporates a bespoke supercharger that pushes output to a staggering 750 hp.

Power is managed through an adjustable all-wheel-drive system inspired by the original DTM racer. Drivers can select a balanced 50/50 torque distribution or a rear-biased 20/80 setup. There is also a pure rear-wheel-drive drift mode for maximum track entertainment. This versatility matches the adaptable suspension setup, which provides three baseline configurations alongside manual adjustments. The firm intends to build 55 Stradale models and 55 Trofeo units, each fully customized to individual client preferences.

We're Not Even Mad

This phenomenal project surfaces during a fascinating era for Italian performance machinery. Automotive enthusiasts worldwide recognize that the latest factory Quadrifoglio models are instant classics. This reality makes custom coachbuilt projects like the 55-SGT incredibly relevant. It also follows the design spirit of other exclusive modern tributes, such as the custom marine-inspired Luna Rossa design studies. SGT Automobili brings something genuinely unique to the table by matching extreme aesthetics with 1,014 lbs of functional aerodynamic downforce.

An unknown startup promising this level of performance naturally invites initial skepticism. However, seeing the Proto Zero running prototype in recent videos proves that this project is far more than digital renders. The company also plans to build 10 highly exclusive Opening Edition models for brand ambassadors. Pricing remains a closely guarded secret for now. Given the massive engineering effort involved, the final price tag will certainly be astronomical, but collectors will surely compete fiercely for a spot in line.
