Suzuki’s $32K Jimny Rhino Is Another Tiny Off-Roader America Cannot Buy

(0 reviews)

You’d think that almost eight years after its launch, the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny can’t surprise its fanbase anymore, and yet that’s exactly the effect the new Jimny Rhino special edition has.

Launched in Australia exclusively with the five-door Jimny XL body, the Rhino combines retro styling with lots of adventure-ready gear in a package that’s hard to resist if small and capable off-roaders are your soft spot.

Striking Visual Updates Inside And Out

Available exclusively in the iconic Kinetic Yellow paintwork, which was previously reserved for Jimny 3-door models only, the Jimny Rhino adds adventure-flavored styling enhancements like the Rhino-themed side decals featuring a charging rhino motif accompanied by twin stripes and the Japanese script for the word ‘rhino’.

The decals are finished in Gloss Black and Satin Aluminum, which go together with the Kinetic Yellow body color quite nicely. Furthermore, the Pearl Black-painted roof creates a nice contrast along with the black bumpers, wheel arches and 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The rims feature a Shuriken-inspired design that’s said to convey a sense of movement even when the car is standing still.

Other exterior tweaks include the heritage Suzuki front grille, exclusive Rhino badge on the tailgate, satin silver side skirt and front bumper garnish, front and rear Suzuki mudflaps, and LED puddle lighting.

Inside, the Suzuki Jimny Rhino gains a retro design gearshift knob (for the manual gearbox only), black leather wrapped door handles and passenger assist handle with kinetic yellow stitching and laser-etched Rhino special edition logo, 8-color customizable footwell illumination with signature Kinetic Yellow option, and a bunch of satin silver accents for the air vent surrounds and shift panel surround (only for the automatic transmission).

Cosmetic and special features aside, the Jimny Rhino features the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gas engine that delivers 100 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 96 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, the engine is puts the power down through a part-time 4WD system.

The Jimny Rhino will be built in a limited run, with prices starting at AUD44,990 (the equivalent of around $31,800) for the manual transmission variant. The automatic commands an AUD2,500 ($1,770) premium. Customers can already place orders through Suzuki Australia's dealer network.
