Tesla has finally brought the Model Y L to the US, stretching out its best-selling electric crossover for those who want a little more room to breathe. This elongated Y first popped up in China last year, where Tesla hoped to spice up demand in the world’s EV capital. After a tour through a handful of other markets, it’s now rolled up on American shores (and Puerto Rico) ready to shake up the lineup.

With a sticker price of $61,990, the Model Y L now claims the title of priciest Model Y in America, leapfrogging the Performance at $57,990 and leaving the standard Premium AWD’s $49,990 tag in the dust.

But Tesla isn’t just asking for more cash because they stretched the body. The Model Y L comes loaded with features and cabin tricks you won’t find on any other Model Y. It’s the new flagship, built for folks who want more room for passengers.

An Exclusive Cabin With More Space And More Features

The real headline here is the cabin. While the usual Model Y lets you pick between five or seven seats, the Model Y L goes its own way with a six-seat setup you can’t get anywhere else in the lineup.

Forget the usual second-row bench – Tesla swaps it out for a pair of captain’s chairs that fold at the push of a button, leaving a handy center aisle so you can actually reach the third row without gymnastics. The way-back seats fold and recline with a tap, and built-in child-seat anchors mean families aren’t left out of the fun.

Up front, you get heated and ventilated seats with powered thigh cushions. The captain’s chairs in the second row? Also heated and ventilated, with powered armrests and adjustments. Even the third row gets heated seats – a luxury you won’t find in the regular seven-seat Model Y.

Tesla didn’t stop at the seats. Cargo space jumps to 89 cubic feet – up from 76 in the regular Model Y. Even with all six seats in use, you can still cram a 28-inch suitcase and a 20-incher in the back, plus another 20-inch suitcase up front in the frunk.

The upgrades list keeps going: climate controls for every row, a massive 16-inch touchscreen up front with an 8-inch display for the second row, a 19-speaker sound system, beefed-up wireless phone chargers, seven USB-C ports, Grok AI voice assistant, thicker acoustic glass, adaptive suspension, grippier staggered tires, and bigger windows with a new tailgate for better visibility.

Performance-wise, the Model Y L comes with dual motors and, of course, all-wheel drive, allowing a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds. It also comes with an EPA-rated 325 miles of range and up to 164 miles of juice in just 15 minutes at a Supercharger.

Pricing Tops The Model Y Range

The new top-dog Model Y starts at $61,990 – about $4,000 more than the Performance and a hefty $12,000 above the standard Premium AWD.

Right now, you can only get the Model Y L with financing – no leases yet. Expect payments from $988 a month on a 72-month loan at 5.64% APR with $3,300 down. If you were hoping to lease, you’ll have to wait.

The Launch Series throws in some exclusive goodies: special badging inside and out, unique floor mats, a suede dash, puddle lights, a year of Premium Connectivity, Supercharging perks, and a year of Full Self-Driving (Supervised).

If the regular Model Y felt a little tight for your crew, the Model Y L gives you some extra breathing room – just set your expectations with the third row headroom. The price tag might make you blink, but the unique six-seat setup and extra features do set it apart from the rest of the Y family.
