The $73,495 Corvette Stingray Just Became A 200-MPH Bargain

(0 reviews)

Fast Doesn't Have To Be Expensive

The Chevrolet C8 Corvette has long been seen as a value supercar, and the updated 2027 model year takes that reputation up a notch. The entry-level Corvette Stingray has completed a validated 200-mph top-speed run, which is especially noteworthy given its $73,495 starting price.

One of the closest challengers to that proposition is the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, which starts at nearly $100,000 and is capable of reaching 205 mph. In the Porsche lineup, the top-tier 911 Turbo S is rated at 200 mph, but the 701-horsepower sports car starts at $272,650. As such, General Motors claims the Corvette Stingray is the most attainable new car capable of achieving that speed.

The V8 Behind The Numbers

The feat was made possible by the introduction of the new small-block V8 called the LS6. Shared with the new Corvette Grand Sport, the 6.7-liter LS6 delivers 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, 40 hp more than the outgoing model. The increased power, along with the Stingray’s low-drag narrow body, allows the vehicle to reach 200 mph.

The trade-off with a low-drag setup is reduced cornering grip, as aerodynamic components that generate downforce by pressing the tires into the road also create drag. That helps explain why the more expensive and track-focused Corvette Z06, despite having more power, is rated at a lower 195-mph top speed.

Still, for speed chasers who do not want to break the bank, the 2027 Corvette Stingray could be their go-to choice. Aside from its 200-mph top speed, it is also capable of delivering a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.8 seconds and an 11.0-second quarter-mile run at a 124-mph trap speed. GM small block assistant chief engineer Mike Kociba said, “The record really shows the strength of the LS6, an engine that we set out to create a unique place in the Corvette lineup.”

A Bargain That's Hard To Ignore

While the Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, and hybridized Grand Sport X will use the new LS6 for the 2027 model year, the Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X retain their existing powertrain setups.

Even the flagship Corvette ZR1X is considered a value supercar. With a starting price of $227,500, the Corvette ZR1X comes with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo LT7 V8 paired with a front-axle electric motor, delivering a combined 1,250 horsepower. That surpasses the Lamborghini Revuelto (1,001 horsepower) and Ferrari 849 Testarossa (1,036 horsepower) while costing less than half as much.
