Toyota Hilux Buyers Get The Factory Upgrades Tacoma Fans May Want

(0 reviews)

Toyota has officially launched the latest Hilux in Japan, bringing the popular pickup truck back to its home market with a wide range of factory-backed accessories available. Positioned as a rival to mid-size pickups like the Ford Ranger, the Hilux is similar in spirit to the Tacoma and has built a global reputation for toughness and reliability over decades. Japan only gets the dual-cab 4WD version of the ninth-generation Hilux, split into two trims, namely Z and Z Adventure.

Hilux buyers have a choice between two different styling packages through Modellista and GR Parts divisions. Modellista is an in-house tuning division of Toyota, much like Alpina is to BMW nowadays, and focuses on a more premium, urban-inspired look. The brand offers black exterior trim pieces, LED bumper accents, underbody protection, and unique 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels finished in matte olive. Buyers can also add practical extras such as a sunshade, tonneau cover, tinted windows, and door handle protectors. The strangest accessory, however, may be a Modellista tote bag that can also be used as a seat cushion.

GR Parts, developed through Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division, takes a sportier approach. The catalog includes a black honeycomb grille, aerodynamic window visors, black or red GR-branded mud flaps, and twin stainless steel exhaust tips. Toyota has not yet confirmed a full Hilux GR Sport model, but these upgrades already give the pickup a much more aggressive appearance.

The GR Parts catalog is not limited to cosmetic changes. Toyota also offers performance dampers and reinforced door stabilizers that are designed to reduce vibrations while improving steering feel and chassis rigidity. These upgrades are aimed at making the Hilux feel more refined both on and off the road.

For buyers looking for something more adventure-focused, Toyota also offers an “Adventure Starter Set.” The package includes a bed liner, roof crossbars, tailgate dampers, and upgraded tailgate badging. Together, the accessories help turn the Hilux into a more capable lifestyle vehicle for whatever adventure awaits.

Diesel Power Only For Japan

The base model Toyota Hilux Z will cost 4,980,800 Yen ($31,250), whereas the Z Adventure will cost 5,500,000 Yen ($34,500). Unlike some international markets that offer petrol or hybrid alternatives, the Japanese-spec Hilux is available exclusively with a 1GD 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine that pushes 201 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Hilux remains one of Toyota’s most respected global vehicles thanks to its durability and proven reliability record. Unfortunately, the US won't be getting the Hilux anytime soon.
