Updated Toyota Sienna Revealed With a Massive Center Screen

A Refresh From Overseas

The Toyota Sienna has been battling the Chrysler Pacifica for the top spot in the U.S. minivan segment. Earlier this year, Chrysler sought to strengthen the Pacifica's position with updates for the 2027 model year. Toyota, meanwhile, does not appear to have any immediate plans to follow suit, though the Sienna has received a technology-focused refresh in China.

Before anything else, the U.S.-spec and China-spec Sienna are built locally for their respective markets, so the Chinese update does not necessarily confirm what is coming to North America. Still, it could offer a preview of what Toyota may consider for a future refresh elsewhere. According to Autohome, the changes are largely limited to technology upgrades, while the minivan's exterior and powertrain remain unchanged.

A Tablet Takes Center Stage

The headline update is a new 15.6-inch infotainment screen with a more upright, tablet-style layout. It is powered by a Qualcomm 8155P chip and supports Huawei HiCar 5.0 smartphone connectivity. However, since HiCar is designed primarily for the Chinese market, it is unlikely to be offered on a U.S.-spec Sienna even if the larger display eventually makes its way stateside.

For comparison, the U.S.-spec Sienna currently offers a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the LE trim uses an 8-inch unit. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with connected services that provide features such as real-time traffic updates, navigation assistance, and hands-free messaging.

There is no indication that Toyota plans to bring the 15.6-inch display to the U.S.-spec Sienna, but the update shows that the automaker already has a larger-screen solution available should it decide to refresh the minivan for North America. At present, the largest infotainment display offered by Toyota in the U.S. is a 14-inch unit found in models such as the Tundra and bZ.

Building On A Winning Formula

Mechanically, the Sienna remains unchanged. It retains its 2.5-liter hybrid setup, which is rated at up to 36 mpg combined under EPA standards, making it the most fuel-efficient in the segment.

With the current-generation Sienna now approaching six years on the market, a major overhaul could arrive within the next year or two. Such an update could be important for keeping the minivan competitive, especially as the segment continues to show signs of life in the U.S. despite the market's strong preference for crossovers/SUVs.
