Used Rivian R2s Are Selling For $20K Above Sticker

Rivian R2 Flippers Are Already Asking $20,000 Over Sticker

The Rivian R2 has only been available to customers for about a month, but some owners are already trying to cash in. With reservation holders facing long waiting times, two virtually brand-new 2027 Rivian R2 Performance models have appeared on the used market, carrying asking prices far higher than their original sticker prices.

Deliveries of the 2027 Rivian R2 began in the United States on June 9, 2026, making them among the first used R2s to appear on the open market. The more expensive of the two is finished in Half Moon Gray and listed for $79,900, while a second Catalina Cove example is priced at $79,500. Both have covered just 50 miles.

According to the listing, the Half Moon Gray SUV was originally intended as a present but is "no longer needed." Aside from that, it is essentially a brand-new vehicle. Considering the Rivian R2 Performance starts at $57,990, the asking price represents a premium of almost $22,000 for buyers who want to skip the reservation queue.

The "cheaper" Catalino Cove listing includes the original R2's window sticker, which reads a $61,485 MSRP. In other words, this buyer wants more than $18,000 over sticker for their good-as-new R2 Performance.

Demand Is Already Driving Huge Markups

The R2 is a more affordable, compact electric SUV that retains Rivian's signature mix of modern technology, practicality, off-road capability, and strong performance. Buyers can choose among Standard, Premium, and Performance trim levels, with the latter having 656 hp from three electric motors, resulting in a claimed 3.6-second 0-60 mph time.

Early flipping is nothing new in the automotive world. Limited supply and strong demand have previously driven huge markups on vehicles like the Tesla Cybertruck and Chevrolet Corvette C8. The R2 appears to be following the same pattern, with some buyers expected to pay thousands of dollars to avoid a lengthy wait.

More Production Could Bring Prices Down

Following strong second-quarter sales, Rivian raised its full-year 2026 production and delivery forecast by 3,000 vehicles. Rivian has also recently increased prices on the R1T electric pickup truck and the R1S electric SUV by $7,000, highlighting the growing demand for its products.

Whether these inflated R2 prices last, and whether buyers are willing to swallow the premium, remains to be seen. As production ramps up and more vehicles reach customers, premiums will likely begin to shrink.
