Brisbane Venue The Brightside Is Offering Free Rehearsal Space To Local Bands

In a genuinely lovely move for Brisbane’s music community, The Brightside has announced it’ll begin offering free daytime rehearsal slots to local artists and bands – no hire fees, no strings attached.

After more than a decade at the centre of Brisbane’s live scene, the beloved Fortitude Valley venue says the initiative is its way of giving something back to the community that helped build it.

“We wanted to find a small way to give something back”

“For 12 years, The Brightside has been lucky enough to sit at the heart of Brisbane’s live music community,” the venue wrote in a social media post.

“We’ve watched bands play their first shows, launch records, sell out rooms and grow into artists touring across the country and beyond. Brisbane’s music scene has given us everything over the years, so we wanted to find a small way to give something back.”

The venue pointed to rising cost-of-living pressures making it increasingly difficult for emerging artists to simply exist, let alone create.

“With the cost of living continuing to rise, rehearsal rooms, rent and even getting your band across town is becoming harder, especially for grassroots artists just starting out.”

Their solution? Open the doors.

The Brightside will now make a number of free daytime rehearsal slots available each week, giving local acts somewhere to write, rehearse, tighten their live sets and make some noise without worrying about another expense.

“Just a space to rehearse, write songs, tighten your live set and make some noise.

“Bring your gear, use the room and come soundtrack our days while we work behind the scenes preparing for the next show.”

It’s a small gesture on paper, but one that feels increasingly meaningful at a time where rising costs continue to hit grassroots music from every angle.

Because behind every sold-out headline show is usually a bunch of sweaty rehearsals somewhere first.

Bands and artists interested in booking a slot can find details via The Brightside’s rehearsal page and social channels.
