Watch Arch Enemy Debut New Aussie Vocalist Lauren Hart Live

Swedish melodeath juggernauts Arch Enemy have officially kicked off a new era – and it’s got a distinctly Aussie accent.

The band launched their latest chapter live over the weekend in Beijing, opening their China run with the first-ever live performance featuring new vocalist Lauren Hart (yep, one of our own).

Stepping into the lineup following the departure of longtime frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, Hart’s debut has been one of the most hotly anticipated moments in modern metal – and thanks to some fan-filmed footage already doing the rounds, we’ve finally got our first proper look at how she handles the gig.

Spoiler: she rules.

If you suss the video above, you can hear the crowd losing their minds as Hart graciously returns a compliment from the front row: “YOU’RE fucking awesome!” she laughs before continuing between big cheers: “Did you know tonight we are all making fucking history together? Because this is our first show ever as a band. It all starts right here with you Beijing!”

Hart first introduced herself to the Arch Enemy faithful earlier this year via the single To The Last Breath, but this was the real test – throwing her straight into a stacked live set packed with fan favourites and deep cuts. From The Eagle Flies Alone to Nemesis, plus the live debut of the new track, the setlist read like a greatest hits gauntlet… and from all accounts, Hart powered through it with precision and presence.

Arch Enemy founder Michael Amott has already made it clear this isn’t some temporary fill-in moment, praising Hart’s “remarkable voice” and signalling a long-term future with the band. Meanwhile, OG vocalist Angela Gossow has gone full co-sign mode, dubbing Hart “Angela reincarnate” – which, in metal terms, is about as strong a character reference as it gets.

Early days, sure – but if this first showing is anything to go by, Arch Enemy’s next era is looking very, very solid… and proudly flying the Aussie flag while it’s at it
