One of Australia’s fastest-rising heavy acts is entering a bold new era.
Melbourne genre-benders Windwaker have announced their third studio album, smile, you’re on camera, due out 23rd October via Civilians and Fearless Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have unleashed an explosive new single, ‘closer’, and revealed their biggest Australian headline tour to date.
Windwaker – ‘closer’
Presented by triple j and Destroy All Lines, the October/November run will see Windwaker joined by Las Vegas genre-smashers The Pretty Wild on their first-ever Australian tour, alongside hyperpop-metal favourite RinRin and Melbourne chaos merchants DREGG (excluding the Perth show).
“We are so excited to bring our new album to life on stages all around Australia,” vocalist Liam Guinane says. “We’ve poured so much into this record, and we can’t wait to play these songs live for the very first time. We’re also so stoked to be bringing out The Pretty Wild for their Australian debut, along with a couple of our favourite Aussie artists. We hope to see you all there.”
The tour arrives just one week after the release of smile, you’re on camera, which the band describe as their most personal record yet.
“smile, you’re on camera is undeniably our best and most focused collection of songs to date,” the band say. “We learned so much making this record together, and we’re incredibly proud of what it’s become. It opens the door to who we are, and offers a glimpse into our world through the highs and the lows. It’s the most personal and honest Windwaker has ever been.”
Fans have already had a taste of the record through recent singles ‘victory lap’ and ‘click’ featuring RinRin, while new track ‘closer’ pushes the band’s ever-evolving sound even further.
Co-written in Los Angeles alongside producer Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker), the post-industrial alt-metal anthem explores the moment of standing at a crossroads – choosing between walking away from your dreams or pushing forward despite the uncertainty.
The announcement caps another huge year for Windwaker, who recently completed their first-ever US headline tour and made their Sonic Temple Festival debut alongside My Chemical Romance, Dayseeker and Pierce The Veil. Later this year they’ll return to North America supporting Beartooth before heading to Europe in early 2027 with Bury Tomorrow and Stick To Your Guns.
Meanwhile, Australian fans will be the first to hear the new record live when the band return home for what promises to be their biggest headline run yet.
