Home Depot Is Accused Of Spying On Drivers In Its Parking Lots
Covert Ops Whenever you park at a Home Depot, your presence is tracked on the premises using Flock Safety's automated license plate recognition cameras. These cameras capture and process data and feed it directly to a database that's accessible to law enforcement across the U.S. The issue stems from the policies the retailer has in place for operating the cameras, who gets the data, and who gets to act on the information in said data. That, and the questionable reputation of Flock Safety, a company that has been involved in cases of unauthorized data sharing. Getty Images Home Depot's Not Doing Enough A 57-page complaint alleges that Home Depot violates California law with its large-scale security camera systems. These systems are capable of capturing vehicle license plates, makes, models, colors, and other "distinguishing features." Time stamps and location information are also logged alongside vehicle information and sent to a centralized database accessible nationwide to law enforcement. Home Depot has a right to "home defense," but only if it uses the information it gathers correctly and for the intended purpose. According to the class action lawsuit, Home Depot has failed to comply with several requirements of California's Automated License Plate Recognition Privacy Act, which includes: failure to identify the title of the official custodian of the automated camera system, failure to define the data retention period, and allowing "open-ended" law enforcement with virtually no restrictions on federal, out-of-state agencies, or immigration enforcement. Furthermore, Home Depot hasn't identified the measures it's taking to ensure system accuracy and error correction, nor has it defined the training policies in place for its employees and contractors who operate the system. Getty Other Concerns Apart from the violation or failure to comply with additional requirements under California Law, the filing also notes that the data could hold value to the retailer, as it could be sold to data brokers for targeted advertising and consumer profiling, the lawsuit claims. The allegation comes from historical data surrounding Flock Safety, Home Depot's system provider. As the suit goes, Flock secretly re-enabled "nationwide" data-sharing settings for its cameras deployed by state law enforcement agencies in some locations, without prior authorization. The act exposed vehicle data that wasn't approved. Because of this, the integrity of Flock's data privacy is called into question. Plus, the system has been known to misread incidents. At least 12 were mentioned in the lawsuit wherein individuals were wrongfully identified and stopped, arrested, or attacked by police dogs. Brian Iselin The FAQs However, Homie Depot has issued a list of frequently asked questions regarding immigration activity in its parking lots. In which the company stated a few things like "The Home Depot is not involved in [immigration enforcement] operations, and [it] does not coordinate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), or other federal agencies regarding them. Also, its parking lots are considered publicly accessible, so law enforcement doesn't need a permit to enter. The Home Depot also admits that its cameras are used for "the purpose of detecting and preventing theft and protecting the safety of our customers and associates." The company then stated that "[The Home Depot does not] grant access to our license plate readers to federal law enforcement." Sure, Home Depot doesn't grant access, but what about Flock Safety? The Class Action According to the source, despite Flock Safety's questionable practices, Home Depot has yet to make a change. In other words, the company is still operating its automated camera systems in its parking lots and hasn't reported any changes to its data collection and sharing policies at this time. The license plate reader class action lawsuit will represent all individuals whose vehicles were captured by Home Depot's automated license plate reader systems, or its vendors, at any California retail location from the date that the Flock Safety cameras were installed to the present. Michael Jordan’s “I’m Back” Corvette Is Now On Display For Fans To See
The 1990s were a golden age for basketball, thanks to the global explosion of NBA, which offered spectacular gameplay, iconic rivalries, and legendary star power. The main driving force behind it all was Michael Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to six championships in eight years and transformed the league into a global phenomenon. It may be hard to comprehend now, but Jordan’s popularity in the 1990s was unparalleled, and everywhere he went, overwhelming crowds would cause chaotic scenes. That’s when his love for fast cars came in handy, as he could always rely on his rides to flee the scene if things got too hectic. National Corvette Museum One of the most iconic Michael Jordan vehicles has to be his 1993 Corvette ZR-1, which he has recently given out on loan to the National Corvette Museum. The ZR-1 is now part of the “Pop Culture and Corvette: An American Love Affair” exhibition in Bowling Green, Kentucky., which includes Corvettes that made their mark in TV shows, films, music videos, video games or were owned by celebrities and athletes. Yes, This Is the Famous 'I'm Back' Corvette National Corvette Museum Jordan’s love for Corvettes is well-documented, but this particular ZR-1 is by far the best-known of Air Jordan’s Vettes. After he announced his comeback to the sport on March 18, 1995 with the world’s shortest press release—“I’m back”—his first public appearance was in this Ruby Red ZR-1 he drove to Chicago Bulls practice. The moment was immortalized in episode 8 of ESPN’s 2020 ‘The Last Dance’ docuseries and made the car a global icon. National Corvette Museum Now, Jordan’s decision to drive the Corvette ZR-1 as he made his NBA comeback was not accidental. Known as “King of the Hill,” the 1990-1995 Corvette ZR-1 was the ultimate American supercar of the era, much like Jordan was the ultimate athlete of the 1990s. Jordan’s ZR-1 has the 40th Anniversary Package and the Ruby Red exterior goes with matching sports seats. The rear license plate has a Chicago Bulls logo, a basketball and rim, the Chicago skyline, and the years of team’s first NBA Championship three-peat. 1993 Was the Perfect Year to Buy a Corvette ZR-1 Under the hood, the 5.7-liter LT5 V8 engine co-developed with Lotus Engineering delivered 405 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque starting with the 1993 model year, thanks to several updates like modified cylinder heads, updated cam timing, valvetrain revisions and an upgraded exhaust system. That was a lot of power for the early 1990s. Mated to a six-speed manual, the V8 enabled the ZR-1 to do 0-60 in as little as 4.3 seconds and hit a top speed of over 180 mph. Also notably for the 1993 model year, Chevrolet introduced the 40th Anniversary Package (RPO Z25) that included the Ruby Red metallic paint, matching Ruby Red leather sport seats, and special 40th Anniversary emblems on the hood, deck and side gills. Only 245 ZR-1 were produced with this package, and only one of those achieved global fame thanks to Michael Jordan. If you want to see it up close, the “I’m Back” Corvette ZR-1 will be on display at the National Corvette Museum until next spring. Chinese EV Costs Just $58 A Month, And Legacy Brands Should Be Worried
Chinese automaker Leapmotor is expanding its presence in Europe's largest auto market thanks to its partnership with Stellantis, with a highly competitive electric vehicle lease program. Starting at just 49 Euros, or $58, the Leapmotor T03 City Car leverages Germany's new EV subsidies to hit the market cheaper than some phones. Despite the low price tag, the vehicle comes equipped with standard perks including a rear-view camera, six airbags, and a panoramic sunroof. By combining Chinese components, localized German EV subsidies, and the existing Stellantis manufacturing and distribution infrastructure, Leapmotor has managed to drop the monthly payment to exactly half the cost of its direct European competitors. For context, Stellantis’s own Fiat 500e demands roughly 99 Euros or $115 a month. Demand for compact cars is strong in urban Europe. Stellantis Leapmotor T03 City CarBlending urban utility with a surprisingly premium feature set, and "sufficient" performance and range, the T03 is an undeniable value proposition. Underpinned by a 37.3 kWh battery, it offers a WLTP range of approximately 174 miles, making it more than capable for daily commuting. Connected with an appropriate charger, it can charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in 36 minutes. Its compact footprint, being 142.52 inches long and 65.04 inches wide, and tight turning radius are especially helpful in dense city centers, and considering its range and power output, the city centers are where most of its target demographic would be. Stellantis The Leapmotor T03 is powered by a front-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) producing 95 hp and 116 lb-ft of torque. This setup allows for a 0–62 mph sprint in 12.7 seconds. Quite sufficient for a $58 per month proposition. Stellantis and Leapmotor PartnershipThe partnership enabling this pricing is the Stellantis-led joint venture. Leapmotor International (LPMI), established after Stellantis paid $1.75 billion for a 20 percent stake in Leapmotor back in 2023, was originally framed as a way for the legacy automaker to access cost-effective Chinese EV architecture. Instead, it has morphed into a launchpad. By granting Leapmotor immediate access to Stellantis' European dealership network of over 850 points of sale. Stellantis erased the astronomical logistical barrier to entry that typically paralyzes foreign startups. Stellantis and Leapmotor also confirmed they are radically expanding their industrial footprint in Europe to bypass the EU's impending "Made-in-Europe" regulatory requirements. The roadmap dictates that Leapmotor’s upcoming B10 SUV will be assembled directly alongside Opel products at Stellantis’ Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza, Spain. Even more significantly, Stellantis is in active discussions to permanently transfer ownership of its Villaverde plant in Madrid to LPMI's Spanish subsidiary. Other manufacturers are considering similar moves due to unused production capacity, and the potential for capturing market share. Stellantis Consequences for Legacy BrandsTariffs and protectionist rhetoric are functionally useless if legacy automakers willingly hand over their factory floors and supply chains to the very competitors threatening their margins. The impact is already violently altering the German market. According to fresh data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), Leapmotor’s deliveries in the country surged 358 percent in the first four months of 2026, pushing past 4,500 units. The aggressive leasing strategy directly attacks Europe's heavy reliance on B2B fleet transactions and subscription models, a vulnerability legacy brands thought they had secured. Ford is now considering a similar agreement for America. Is collusion rather than competition the way forward? View the full article

Toyota’s RAV4-Based Pickup Could Be A Nightmare For Ford Maverick
Toyota is the dominant force in the midsize pickup segment, where the Tacoma comfortably outsells rivals like the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline. But there’s an opportunity for the brand to go even smaller and cheaper with a new compact pickup, something the company’s dealerships have been asking for. In an interview this week, Toyota Motor North America CEO Ted Ogawa expressed more than a passing interest in such a model, which could be a huge problem for the Ford Maverick. RAV4-Based, Unibody Pickup Truck Toyota In the compact pickup segment, a unibody setup is more acceptable than it is for bigger trucks, as buyers in this category don’t need the capability of a large body-on-frame pickup. Asked about whether Toyota will consider a compact pickup or a small commercial van, Ogawa was much more enthusiastic about the former. “There is, of course, some opportunity for us in the commercial area, but it is new to us,” said the CEO to Automotive News. “We need to study more. But for the compact truck? Definitely, we have such demand. A RAV4-based pickup is an opportunity for us, and the dealers are waiting. Maybe they say we need today or tomorrow, but it takes time.” Toyota The TNGA-K platform of the current RAV4 is the perfect basis for a new Toyota compact pickup. It should make for a pickup that’s comfortable, efficient, and maneuverable enough, while adding the versatility of a small bed. Ford’s Maverick has already shown us this recipe can work, as it shares its platform with compact crossovers like the Escape and Bronco Sport. In terms of powertrains, Ford’s Maverick is offered with a hybrid, making it the most efficient pickup on sale. Toyota has extensive experience with hybrids, and the 226-horsepower mill in the current RAV4 would be ideal for a new, small pickup. Related: 2026 Honda Ridgeline Vs. 2026 Toyota Tacoma: 4 Major Differences Pricing Is Key Ford To make a compact pickup work, Toyota will need to get the pricing right. The Maverick starts at $27,145, around $6,000 less than the base Ranger. Toyota will need to look at a similar price gap between a new compact pickup and the larger Tacoma, which begins at $32,445. Ford sold over 155,000 Mavericks in 2025, a record year for the pickup and a clear sign that there’s adequate demand for it. The base model has also been very popular, as buyers increasingly look for no-frills models at lower prices. The only other small pickup that was on sale, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, failed to make an impact, with Hyundai set to cease sales of that model. However, Hyundai doesn’t have Toyota’s reputation for building reliable pickups in the U.S., which is likely why it failed to capture buyers’ interests. What It Means Toyota Dealers are begging for it, Ford has shown the demand exists, and Toyota already has a platform for it—all signs indicate that a RAV4-based compact pickup would be a smart move for the Japanese brand. It would mark the first time Toyota returns to the compact pickup segment since the Toyota Truck (known as the Hilux in other markets) was sold here in the 1990s. It would fill one of the few gaps in Toyota’s extensive U.S. lineup and go some way to revitalizing a once beloved segment. Maserati's Next EV Could Be Built In China With Help From Huawei
Maserati could soon take a major step away from its Italian roots. According to a report from Yunjian Insight, Stellantis is currently in talks with Chinese technology giant Huawei and Chinese automaker JAC to jointly develop a new electric vehicle for the Maserati brand. This comes at a celebratory moment for Maserati, as the brand turns 100 years old. While the marque remains one of Italy’s most historic performance brands, this may be a turning point for the niche automaker. Huawei Would Handle The Tech, JAC Builds The Car Maserati If the project moves forward, the new EV would reportedly follow a structure similar to Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). Under the proposed arrangement, Huawei would be responsible for planning and technology, while JAC would handle manufacturing, research, and development. Maserati, on the other hand, would only handle the car’s styling and brand image. In other words, each company would focus on its strongest area of expertise The Same EV May Wear Two Different Badges Maextro According to the report, the vehicle may appear in two forms. One version would reportedly be sold in China under the Maextro brand, an existing partnership between Huawei and JAC. The second version would wear Maserati badges and target international markets. Although no official agreement has reportedly been signed, Yunjian Insight says discussions have been ongoing since early last year, with preliminary development work already underway. If the deal materializes, it would further highlight how influential Chinese companies like Huawei have become in the global EV space. Maserati's Brutal Sales Collapse Maserati Like several niche luxury brands, Maserati has struggled to adapt to changing market demands. Although the company already caters to different segments by offering electric versions of the GranTurismo and the Grecale SUV, they haven't translated into sales. In 2025, Maserati sold 7,900 cars worldwide. For reference, the brand sold 11,300 cars in 2024 and more than 51,000 units in 2017. China, once the brand’s biggest single market, has seen an even sharper decline. Maserati reportedly sold around 14,500 vehicles there in 2017, but just over 1,000 units last year. In response, the company has offered up to an $85,000 discount on some EV models in an effort to bring back customers. Maserati is expected to showcase a new concept car in October at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, which may offer an early look at the brand’s future direction. However, if the reported Huawei and JAC partnership moves forward, the next generation of Maserati EVs may owe just as much to China’s rapidly growing automotive industry as they do to the brand’s Italian heritage. Volkswagen Adds Camper ID. Buzz And More Powerful Atlas For 2027
Volkswagen’s 2027 Lineup Starts Taking ShapeVolkswagen’s plans for 2027 bring a lot of movement across the lineup. Some changes are minor – think extra standard features or tweaks to trim levels – but others go much deeper. The headline is the all-new, second-generation Atlas. It gets a fresh look, a reworked cabin, more standard kit, and a stronger version of VW’s turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The 2027 Atlas puts out 282 horsepower from the latest evo5 EA888 engine, making it the most powerful Atlas so far. Volkswagen expects fuel economy to improve, but official EPA numbers aren’t out yet. Pricing is still under wraps, with more details promised closer to launch. The Atlas Cross Sport will get its own reveal later in 2026. The other big news is the return of the ID. Buzz. After sitting out the 2026 model year, Volkswagen is bringing the retro-styled electric van back for 2027 with a refreshed lineup and a handful of software and feature upgrades. It’s also clear VW is rethinking how the EV fits into the market. Adam Lynton / Autoblog The ID. Buzz Gets a Camping-Focused Tourer TrimFor 2027, the ID. Buzz lineup grows to four trims: Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion, and Pro S Plus 4Motion. The standout is the new Tourer trim, which leans into the van’s lifestyle side. Borrowed from the European-market ‘Good Night Package,’ it adds camping gear that turns the ID. Buzz into a modern electric camper. The Tourer packs in a fold-out mattress and platform, window blinds, front window vents, outdoor tables and chairs, and an Overnight Mode that sets the van up for sleeping inside. Volkswagen also adds a retractable tow hitch, captain’s chairs, a panoramic electrochromic roof, and 20-inch wheels finished in dark graphite. All ID. Buzz models now get VW’s updated ID.S 6 infotainment, running on an Android-based system with new navigation menus and faster access to key functions. VW is also rolling more digital services into its subscription package, like ChatGPT-powered voice controls, podcast streaming, AirConsole gaming, and integrated garage controls with myQ. There’s also a new Candy White over Cherry Red paint option that nods to classic Microbus color combos. It’s the most nostalgic look the ID. Buzz has offered yet. Volkswagen Pricing Is Still the Big QuestionThe big question is where Volkswagen will price the updated ID. Buzz lineup. The 2025 model launched at a price point that surprised a lot of buyers looking for a nostalgic electric van. Since then, dealer discounts and inventory pricing have started to shift the story. Recent price drops have made the ID. Buzz is much more appealing once it dips below $50,000. That’s closer to what buyers expected from the start, especially since the van is aimed at lifestyle use, not as a luxury flagship. Volkswagen hasn’t announced 2027 pricing yet, but the new trim structure and simpler options should make it easier to position the lineup competitively. The ID. Buzz returning after a year off also hints that VW is rethinking where it fits in the brand’s North American EV plans. Volkswagen View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article The Rest of the VW Range Gets Smaller but Useful ChangesBeyond the Atlas and ID. Buzz, most of Volkswagen’s 2027 changes are about packaging tweaks and added tech. The Golf GTI gets more standard gear on lower trims, while the Golf R Black Edition comes back with dark exterior accents and optional lightweight upgrades like an Akrapovic titanium exhaust. The Taos lineup adds a Sport trim with blacked-out styling and yellow interior stitching. Jetta and Jetta GLI get upgraded infotainment and more connected services. The Tiguan stays mostly the same, except for better camera quality and a few extra standard features. Volkswagen is also rolling out more bundled in-vehicle subscription services across the lineup. Features like AI voice assistance, premium navigation, gaming, and upgraded driver aids are becoming a bigger part of the ownership experience for 2027. Whether buyers actually use all of these is up for debate, but VW is clearly pushing toward a more software-driven approach. 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition Cranks Up the Aggression
Ever since the full-size Nissan Titan departed after the 2024 model year, the midsize Frontier has been Nissan’s only competitor in the pickup truck segment. Now, Nissan has handed the Frontier a few upgrades for the 2027 model year to keep pace with rivals like the Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger. The big news is the addition of the new Sport Edition package, a rugged upgrade that adds some Pro-4X-inspired gear to the mid-range SV trim. With this pack, the Frontier also gains some new trim and eye-popping colors to make it stand out from other models. Here’s everything that’s new for the tough Nissan. Nissan Frontier Sport Edition 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition Nissan View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article Although not as capable as the Pro-X and Pro-4X models, the Frontier borrows some of the visual changes found on those models, including a black lower front fascia, grille, and mirrors. Sport lettering can also be found on the bedside and tailgate. The following extras are also added for Sport Edition models: Black off-road-style 17-inch wheelsHankook Dynapro all-terrain tiresAluminum skid plateLED fog lights and front accent lightingDurable black upholstery with high-contrast yellow accent stitchingLike all other Frontiers, the Sport Edition uses a 3.8-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity stays at 7,150 pounds, which is solid but not as strong as the Chevy Colorado’s class-leading figure of 7,700 lbs. There’s no mention of the Bilstein shock absorbers found on the Pro-X and Pro-4X, though, so the Sport Edition is more of a middle ground between the SV and those models. It does come with Sand, Mud, and Rock driving modes, though. 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition Nissan View the 5 images of this gallery on the original article “The Frontier Sport Edition delivers a more athletic appearance that answers our customers’ calls for a stylish, distinctive truck backed by capability that supports their active, outdoor lifestyles,” said Marco Fioravanti, vice president, product planning, Nissan U.S. and Canada. Alpine White Metallic is a newly available color for the pickup’s exterior, while the Pro Convenience package adds an upgraded Qi2-compatible wireless charger. This charger positions the phone correctly via magnets, has a cooling fan to keep your device’s temperature low, and charges faster and more consistently. Pro-X and Pro-4X variants add a new Moonroof Package with the Convenience Package, allowing for more flexibility when choosing standalone features. That’s about it for the changes, with the truck still getting a standard eight-inch touchscreen and optional 12.3-inch unit. Advanced features like a 360-degree monitor, remote engine start, and a 10-speaker Fender premium sound system are all available. Nissan will only announce pricing before the 2027 Frontier reaches showrooms later this summer. The current 2026 model starts at $32,150 for the base King Cab and goes up to $33,550 for the Crew Cab. The SV Crew Cab starts at $36,190, so with a small price increase and the Sport Edition’s extras, this particular 2027 model will likely start at around $38,000. Related: I Drove The 2025 Nissan Frontier Pro4X Off-Road: Here's How It Did Final Thoughts Nissan Sales of the Nissan Frontier increased by 47.9% in the first quarter of 2026, so demand for the midsize pickup is strong right now. That explains why the 2027 model’s changes don’t rock the boat, with just enough that’s new to keep customers interested. The new Sport Edition will compete closely with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, another mid-range trim with some welcome extras, but without the serious off-road hardware of higher-spec models. Now that Nissan’s SUVs and pickups are back on track, it just needs to find a solution to substantially lower sedan sales. View the full article

Tesla’s Supercharger Waitlist Is A Smart Fix For Charging-Line Chaos
Tesla is testing a new feature at five busy Supercharger locations across California and New York, and it might be the most quietly brilliant thing the company has done for the charging experience in years. Anyone who has pulled into a crowded public charger on a holiday weekend knows the misery of peak charging congestion. You circle the lot looking for a free charger, someone else is doing the same, and nobody really knows who was there first. The new waitlist feature should fix that, and the best part is that even non-Tesla drivers can join the waitlist via the app. Getty Images What Tesla Is Actually DoingAs a vehicle approaches a Supercharger location, it automatically joins a virtual queue. The driver can then manage their position, choosing to continue waiting or leave at any time, and if the vehicle moves too far outside the Supercharger's geofence, it is automatically dropped from the queue. That small detail is what makes the whole thing genuinely useful. Rather than being tethered to your car in a parking lot, you can grab coffee, sit down for a meal, or browse a nearby shop, knowing your place in line is held. Tesla also plans to integrate the virtual queue into its iPhone Live Activity feature, giving drivers a live view of how many vehicles are ahead of them and their estimated wait time. We're now testing a new waitlist feature at 5 Supercharger sites. Share feedback through the Tesla app to help us make it better. - Los Gatos, CA - Los Gatos Boulevard - Mountain View, CA - El Monte Avenue - San Francisco, CA - Lombard Street - San Jose, CA - Saratoga Avenue -… pic.twitter.com/epTVzpJxgW — Tesla Charging (@TeslaCharging) May 11, 2026 A Gap Nobody Else Has Filled for Public Fast ChargingChargePoint's software platform does offer waitlist functionality, automatically placing drivers in queues and notifying them when a station frees up, but this is a backend tool sold to operators managing workplace or fleet sites, not a consumer-facing solution for public fast charging surges. EVgo offers reservations at select locations, which helps with planning but does nothing for a surge already underway. No major public fast-charging network has tackled in-the-moment chaos the way Tesla is attempting here. What makes this approach distinct is the vertical integration. Because Tesla owns the app, the charging network, the vehicle, and the software connecting all three, it can sync a driver's arrival with the real-time status of every stall at a given site and is extending the benefit to non-Tesla drivers, too. The lesson for the broader industry is clear, though. A virtual queue does not require owning everything end-to-end; it just requires commitment. Other charging networks should be taking notes. Jeep’s Smallest SUV Gets A New Look And A Manual Turbo Engine
From A First To A SellerThe Jeep Avenger is an important model for the Stellantis-based brand. It was designed primarily for the European market and is the first-ever fully electric Jeep variant. Thankfully for Jeep, the Avenger has become a best seller for them in the region, and in order to keep the streak going, a new mid-cycle refreshed Avenger is now available for purchase. Stellantis View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article The Evolution Of Compact FreedomPart of the updates to the Avenger was already teased by Jeep recently, when they shared a photo of their iconic seven-slot grille now featuring illumination. Jeep says that the new Avenger takes a lot of inspiration from the brand's 85 years of celebration, which they are celebrating this year. The Avenger sums up the automaker's values in the most compact model in the lineup. Built and designed in Europe, the new Jeep Avenger is an evolution of the original model's design cues. Design to function is Jeep's aesthetic driving force, and the Avenger uses it with the inclusion of encased headlamps and “molded-in-color” skid plates, which also help avoid damage. It will also get new front and rear bumpers, as well as newly designed 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels. Two new exterior colors have been introduced for the new Avenger, called Forest and Bamboo. These can be complemented with an optional black roof. The interior of the new Avenger has also been revamped; it now has softer door panel materials and a lower dashboard. Additionally, the Altitude and Summit trims feature new premium cloth/vinyl upholstery, while the 4xe variant now offers new, washable, highly durable green interiors. Lastly, the Selec-Terrain function is now framed in red rubber, making it easier to identify and use on the fly. Stellantis View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article 85th Anniversary and Turbo 100Distinguishing the 85th anniversary from the rest of the range is easy; it'll feature special 85th-anniversary badges on the exterior and interior. It'll also come with a tartan-patterned hood and interior that Jeep says symbolizes freedom and adventure. The biggest change for the new Avenger is a new powertrain. Jeep is introducing the Turbo 100 engine, a 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that puts out 101 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. It'll be paired with just a 6-speed manual transmission. Jeep says the new Turbo 100 engine improves fuel efficiency through a high‑pressure (350 bar) direct-injection system, new piston heads, and a new valve-timing system that reduces internal friction. Reliability has also been improved by using a timing chain rather than a belt. Stellantis View the full article

Toyota And Honda Are Losing China As EV Share Hits 61% And Gas Car Sales Collapse
The Chinese automobile market has rejected internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. For decades, legacy Japanese automakers like Toyota and Honda stood tall in the Chinese market, leveraging long-standing reputations for reliable ICE vehicles. However, new data from April 2026 tells the story of EV dominance. According to the latest figures from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the retail penetration rate for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs)—which includes plug-in hybrids and pure battery-electric vehicles—surpassed the 60 percent threshold for the first time, reaching a historic 61.4 percent. During April, NEV retail sales hit 849,000 units; conversely, traditional ICE vehicles experienced a severe 37 percent year-over-year collapse, dropping to just 530,000 units. The tides have all but turned in China. BYD Catalysts for ConversionThe divide between domestic and foreign automakers is stark. Chinese domestic brands achieved an 80.1 percent NEV penetration rate, successfully capturing the mass-market transition. In contrast, mainstream joint ventures, heavily populated by legacy foreign brands, posted a mere 14.1 percent NEV penetration rate. This structural market shift is having an immediate and severe impact on Japanese manufacturers' sales volumes. Honda is facing significant headwinds even beyond China; cumulative tracking data from January through April 2026 shows a 28 percent year-over-year plunge, equating to 145,065 units sold. For the month of April specifically, Honda’s terminal sales in China slumped by 48 percent. GAC-Toyota Toyota, despite its massive global footprint, is also losing ground. Over the first four months of the year, the automaker saw its Chinese sales fall 10 percent year-over-year to 477,100 units, with its overall April volume contracting by 25 percent. Consumers are increasingly bypassing conservative ICE architectures in favor of highly digitized, affordable domestic electric vehicles. Yet, the data also provides a clear blueprint for survival. While Toyota’s overall internal combustion volume plummeted, the brand’s localized EV sales in China surged by an impressive 88 percent year-over-year in April. This singular bright spot proves that Japanese brands can still capture market share in the region, provided they deliver competitive electric alternatives. BYD Ultimately, the April 2026 reporting period serves as a definitive warning. As domestic Chinese automakers push the pace of NEV adoption, legacy foreign brands can no longer rely on legacy powertrains. To remain viable in China, accelerating the deployment of localized, high-value electric vehicles is no longer optional—it is a strict necessity. View the full article

Porsche 911 GT3 RS Gets A $1 Million Carbon Upgrade
UncompromisingThe Porsche 911 GT3 RS is one of the best versions of one of the best sports cars ever made. It is the expression of Porsche's desire to make a 911 that's as close to racing performance on the road. It is usually a more stripped-out, lighter, tougher, and more powerful 911. For most, it would already be more than enough; however, some think more can be squeezed out of the 911 model. Talos is one of those who do, and it has dialed the hardcore 911 up to 11. Talos Talos 911 RTTalos, a high-end, high-performance British restomod company, has now created the 911 RT. The 911 RT is Talos' definition of what they think the 911 GT3 RS should be. In this case, they took a 992.2 generation GT3 RS and made some tweaks. Let's first address the aggressive looks. Talos takes inspiration from the track-only 911 R; the 911 RT proudly shows off its exposed carbon fiber body panels. In fact, the whole exterior is nothing but exposed carbon fiber, no livery or stickers here, the only color coming from the gold rims. This carbon madness isn't just for show; it allows the Talos 911 RT to save 176 lbs. Talos seamlessly integrated the design by 3D scanning the 911 R to accurately create the panels added to the Talos version. Apart from the carbon fiber and race-car looks, Talos has also added some performance-enhancing pieces to the 911 RT. It features a custom Ohlins TTX Suspension kit, a sophisticated system that Talos says was perfectly wired for the 911 RT, owners can tweak it to strike the right balance between road comfort and track performance, and you can even use a smartphone app to adjust it. Power has also been bumped up to 540 hp from the standard 500; they didn't mention how they increased power, but said it's designed to now have a natural, progressive feel when it comes to power delivery. Talos View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Limited to Just 20 UnitsSomething as exclusive and special as the Talos 911 RT will, of course, come with the customary customization options, many of which. Talos is offering only 20 units of this car, and each owner will be able to make it truly theirs. No 911 RT is expected to look the same. Price for the Talos 911 RT starts at $1,149,548 (converted), and that's just for the upgrades. You'll still need to provide the Porsche 911 GT3 RS yourself, so let's say the whole package will set you back around $1.5 Million, a hefty price for a juiced-up 911 GT3 RS.
