Scrappers Racing Set for Long-Awaited Father-Daughter Debut Top Fuel Showdown at IHRA Triple Crown
Scrappers Racing will finally have the opportunity to field two Top Fuel entries at the same event when they roll into Hebron, Ohio, this week for the first IHRA Triple Crown race at Darana National Trail Raceway. Top Fuel pilot Jasmine Salinas will welcome her father and Scrappers Racing team owner Mike Salinas back to competition for the first time since he stepped out of the driver’s seat at the beginning of 2024. The father/daughter duo will compete in the same category for the first time in their careers, with both drivers racing under the Valley Services banner. Jasmine and Mike originally planned to compete together earlier this year at an IHRA race over Memorial Day weekend, but the event was postponed, so this weekend will be the first opportunity for them to compete with each other. Veteran crew chief Todd Okuhara and assistant crew chief Adem Cave will tune both of the 12,000-horsepower Valley Services Scrappers Racing Top Fuel dragsters. “I’m excited to compete in the first IHRA Triple Crown race this weekend in Hebron,” said Jasmine. “Having my dad back in the driver’s seat with us and fielding a second Top Fuel car is a big deal for us, and something that we’ve been working tirelessly to make happen. It’s been a long journey since he had to step out of the driver’s seat in 2024 and I’m glad that he’s worked hard to make his way back. We’re both excited to race for big money and look forward to the competition this weekend.” Before racing action begins, the Scrappers Racing drivers will be signing autographs and meeting fans at the IHRA Triple Crown Street Party at Buckeye Lake on Thursday, June 18. Competition will kick off on Friday, June 19 and continue on Saturday, June 20. Seattle: Jim Dunn will be on the featured commemorative ticket for the Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals on July 24-26 at Pacific Raceways. Two Old Guys In A Corvette: 46th President Joe Biden Speed Shifts His 1967 Corvette with Jay Leno on the Streets of Southern California
Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, or Independents, none of it matters if you are a real car guy. In the video below you’ll see Jay Leno and President Joe Biden take a ride through SoCal in Joe’s 1967 Corvette Convertible. He’s had it since it was new, and has kept it despite being told he can’t drive it on public roads. I know there are a lot of guys that own 1967 Corvettes and don’t drive them, but if you watch this video I think you’ll agree that we should all be driving our old cars. This is one of those videos that will tell you a little something about Jay, Joe, and the world in general. At one point in this video Jay makes the comment that they are two old guys in a Corvette and it is that for sure, but so much more. Regardless of your party affiliation I think we can agree on several of the topics these tow gentleman are talking about. Watch and tell me I’m wrong. Video Description: Jay Leno hosts a truly historic edition of the show featuring the original owner of a pristine 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray convertible. This beautiful American classic has been kept in incredible condition by its sole driver, the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden. In this exclusive episode, Jay and President Biden take the 1967 classic out for a spin to stretch its legs. The President shares the deeply personal story of how his father, who managed a local car dealership, surprised him with the Corvette as a wedding gift back in 1967. Originally priced at 5,700 dollars, this iconic sports car features a factory four speed manual gearbox that the President still loves to shift himself. The episode features incredible moments on the track, including memories of a legendary runway encounter with Colin Powell in a newer Corvette, and stories of burning rubber right in front of an anxious Secret Service detail. Jay and the President take a nostalgic trip down memory lane while discussing the unique feel of a classic mid-century American V8 engine. Beyond the mechanical highlights of the Corvette, the conversation spans a lifetime of public service, local train travel, environmental conservation, and the absolute vital importance of global alliances. To top off a perfect day of driving, Jay and the President make a classic pit stop at a local ice cream shop for a double scoop of chocolate chip on a sugar cone. Ride Along with Brian Otts in the #13 Super Modified Running The A-Main at Meridian Speedway From 11th to 4th!
If you aren’t familiar with Super Modified circle track cars, then you are missing out. This year at PRI, my buddy Bigun and I walked all around one drooling the whole time. While they do have some that are small block powered, the ones I love most are big block Chevrolet powered and that engine is leaned over and hanging as far off the left side of the car as the rules will allow. Getting all that weight low and inside makes these thing handle way better than they would otherwise. And in the video below you’ll get to watch from on board with Brian otts who starts 11th, and has several tough battles on his way to the number 4 spot in the A-Main. This is some great wheel to wheel racing and if you haven’t seen it from this angle before, you are in for a treat. Video Description: Brian Otts in the #13 Speed Tour Super Modified during the Day 2 Diamond Cup main event at Meridian Speedway. Starting 11th in the feature, Brian worked his way through the field to bring home a strong 4th-place finish on the final night of Diamond Cup. Iron Trap Garage is Sand Bending Zoomie Headers For Their 1932 Ford Roadster Drag Car!- Old School Method Explained!
We’re spoiled nowadays by mandrel bent tubing that is available for just about any project at any radius you can imagine. Some of it is really affordable too. But not always. And every shape and size you can imaging is out there, but that doesn’t always mean they are right for the project you are working on. If you are building an old school, traditional, hot rod or race car then you might want to do it the way they did back in the day anyway, and that’s where the sand bending method comes into play. The idea is pretty simple, here’s how it works. The basics are that you fill the tubing with sand so that it doesn’t deform as you bend it, and then heat it up to make the bending easier. Of course manhandling a piece of tubing that is hot, and now heavy with sand, isn’t always a walk in the park. But it is effective when done right. So check out the Iron Trap crew as they work their magic building headers for this 1932 Ford Roadster drag car they are building. Matt Hartford, the most recent Pro Stock race winner on tour, claimed last year’s GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout title by defeating Greg Anderson, who won the event in 2024. With three victories this season, Hartford will look to build on his recent success and become the first two-time winner of the specialty event. “There’s a thing called momentum,” Hartford said after Sunday’s win in Bristol. “We’re rolling into Norwalk next week. We have the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout there. I’m really looking forward to a nice, humid normal race there because our car’s pretty happy in the conditions we had in Bristol.” The NHRA Pro Stock field is divided between two powerhouse camps: KB Titan Racing, led by six-time champ Anderson and Elite Motorsports, also led by six-time champ Erica Enders. With four drivers from each team in the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout, the longtime rivalry creates another epic showdown for the one-day bonus race. Anderson is the top pick and will have his pick of the field, while his teammate, reigning world champion Dallas Glenn, will have the second pick, followed by Eric Latino, Hartford, Greg Stanfield, Enders, Aaron Stanfield and Jeg Coughlin. The GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout kicks off on Friday, June 26 at 3 p.m., where the drivers will make their first-round picks for the Saturday showdown. The first round of the Callout is Saturday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 1:15 p.m. The finals will take place at 4 p.m., with the winner set to collect a big check, specialty trophy and championship belt. Hartford and Anderson will try to become the first multi-time Callout winner, while the rest of the field is after a first-time win in the unique event. Lost Buckeye Skips Day TWO Drag and Drive Photos! We’ve Got On Track Action and Checkpoints, and More From Day 2 Coming!
Here’s our first gallery of lost photos from Day 2 of Buckeye Skip’s Drag and Drive, and we’ve got plenty more where that came from! Plus, if you missed the previous photos we’ve got a link to those below as well. (Photos by Neal Sabo) When BANGshifter Neal Sabo said he was going to head down to Buckeye Skips 2025 Drag and Drive, to snap pictures and check out the cool stuff going on, we were like “Hell yeah!” He hit all three days, at Darana Dragway at Dragway 42, Quaker Dragway, and Kuhnle Motorsports Park and got all kinds of cool photos. He hit the checkpoints and the tracks and said it was an epic trip. The weather was pretty good, if not a bit cold at Kuhnle, but the racing was hot for sure. And then Neal got home, went through the photos, and sent me files on our dropbox. And that’s where yours truly dropped the ball. For some reason all these great photos never got posted and when we talked to Buckeye Skip himself about coming to cover the 2026 event, he asked what every happened to our 2025 coverage. Luckily Neal has no fear of throwing me under the bus when I deserve it, and I don’t have trouble taking responsibility, so we’re making up for it now! If you want to check out the photos, here is our first gallery from Day 1 and we’ll have more coming over the next several days as we’ll have a few galleries for each day of the event. Check them out, and get ready because Buckeye Skips 2026 drag and drive will be here before you know it. Melanie Johnson Set to Defend Cavalcade of Stars Top Alcohol Dragster Title in Norwalk
Returning to the site of her first career victory, Melanie Johnson is set to defend her Top Alcohol Dragster title at this weekend’s 20th Annual Cavalcade of Stars at Summit Motorsports Park. The event marks a pivotal Central Regional stop on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tour. Last year, in just her sixth career start in the category, Johnson drove the McPhillips Racing A/Fuel Dragster to a hard-earned victory at the Norwalk facility. While she has since secured multiple semifinal finishes, including standout performances at the U.S. Nationals and the Texas FallNationals, she is hungry to return to the Winner’s Circle at a track that holds immense meaning for her and the team. “Winning Norwalk last year was an incredible milestone,” said Johnson. “We’ve had some great performances since then, but we are fully focused on getting the Speedmaster car to the Winner’s Circle this year.” The McPhillips Racing team has spent the early part of the 2026 season refining their tune-up. The regional event kicks off a crucial two-week stretch at Norwalk, with the prestigious Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals taking place the very next weekend. With the NHRA celebrating its historic 75th season, drivers have the unique opportunity to compete for special edition diamond Wally trophies. For Johnson and the McPhillips team, these consecutive races in Ohio represent a perfect opportunity to build momentum and collect vital points for the championship chase. “Rich, Richie, and the guys have been working hard on our combination to find the consistency and power we need,”Johnson noted. “Norwalk is one of the best tracks on our schedule so I’m looking forward to racing there two weekends in a row and I’m confident that all the things we’ve been working on so far this season will start to pay off.” Johnson and the McPhillips Racing team proudly represent Speedmaster, Alan Johnson Performance Engineering (AJPE), NGK Spark Plugs, Lucas Oil, and ARP. Competition at the 20th Annual Cavalcade of Stars begins Saturday, June 20, with qualifying sessions, followed by eliminations on Sunday, June 21.
