Jeep Recon Won’t Be EV-Only After All
Stellantis’ Investor Day 2026 event brought an array of new announcements from the Franco-Italo-American carmaker, chief of which is a massive product offensive centered on the company’s four global brands: Ram, Jeep, Peugeot and Fiat. No fewer than 60 new vehicle launches and 50 significant model refreshes are coming from Stellantis by 2030 across all brands, including 39 ICE/mild hybrid vehicles, 29 battery-electric vehicles, 24 hybrid electric vehicles, and 15 plug-in hybrid or range-extended electric vehicles. The presentation provided details about each brand, and there were some interesting tidbits of information about what U.S. buyers should expect for the Jeep brand. Gas Or Hybrid? Or Both? Stellantis The most surprising one is the fact that the Jeep Recon all-electric off-roader, which is expected to reach U.S. dealerships this summer, will also offer a combustion engine variant. First revealed in 2022 as an all-electric off-road SUV, the Recon hasn’t even reached U.S. showrooms yet and Jeep is already talking about a major powertrain update. Stellantis has confirmed that the Recon is getting an internal combustion engine (ICE) version. The automaker did not provide details about the gas engine it will put in the Recon, nor did it say when the Recon ICE model will launch. Stellantis However, given Stellantis’ product plan, the Recon’s gas engine could get mild hybrid assistance, if not a full hybrid or PHEV setup. Now, the Jeep Recon’s STLA Large multi-energy platform, which is shared with the all-new Cherokee hybrid and the Wagoneer S EV, provides some clues. While BEV-native, STLA Large can also accommodate other types of powertrains, including hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and internal combustion engines (ICE). Stellantis Given the U.S. market’s growing appetite for hybrids, we cannot rule out the possibility of the Recon getting a self-charging hybrid powertrain like the new Cherokee has. We’re talking a dual-motor hybrid system that pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine with two motors housed directly in the front-mounted hybrid eCVT transmission assembly. One motor acts exclusively as a generator for the battery, while the other connects to the main drive ring gear to provide direct power to the wheels and supplement acceleration at low speeds. The powertrain delivers a combined 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque and achieves an estimated fuel economy of 37 MPG combined, thanks in part to the automatic rear-axle disconnect system. The Recon Is Also Compatible With the Hurricane Straight-Six Engine If Jeep has a lot more performance in mind for the Recon, it could always offer the ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder engine from the Dodge Charger, which is available with either 420 hp or 550 hp and comes with standard AWD. It remains to be seen what ICE-based powertrain Jeep has in mind for the Recon; it may as well go down the PHEV route as this type of hybrid powertrain provides more electric-only range and an EV-like driving experience. Besides the ICE Recon, Jeep’s product plan also includes a revival of the Scrambler muscle truck—likely as a 2-door Gladiator with Hemi V8 power as well as Hellcat-powered high-performance Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer versions. The all-new Jeep Compass is also reportedly be coming stateside after its recent debut in Europe. Stellantis View the full article

420,000 Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz Models Recalled for Braking Without Warning
Just a few days after Hyundai had to recall over 50,000 Elantra Hybrids for a fire risk, the automaker has had to initiate another recall—and this one is a lot bigger. Over 420,000 Hyundai models have now been recalled for a forward collision system that could unexpectedly activate the brakes. This comes a few months after Hyundai was sued for phantom braking in certain Tucson models. The issue has led to four reported rear-end crashes after Hyundai models erroneously activated their brakes, so there’s a potentially serious safety risk. Here’s everything we know. Related: Hyundai Sued Over Alleged ‘Phantom Braking’ That Owners Say Happens Without Warning Hyundai Unintended Braking Recall Hyundai According to the recall report on the NHTSA’s website, a total of 421,078 Hyundai models have been recalled. The following models and model years apply: 2025-2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz (13,082 units)2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson (292,805 units)2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (110,844 units)2025-2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid (4,347 units)The defect has been identified as an oversensitivity of the forward collision system, which can suddenly apply the brakes even if there isn’t a need to do so. This can startle drivers and also cause an accident, as drivers following the Hyundais will not have expected a sudden, sharp braking event. Hyundai “The Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) system in the subject vehicles may exhibit increased sensitivity to forward object proximity in certain driving scenarios due to the front camera software,” says the report. “This condition can result in FCA engagement earlier than the operator’s expectation, potentially leading to sudden braking.” The driver won’t have any warning that the vehicle is about to brake. In the lawsuit filed earlier this year, the plaintiffs claimed Hyundai has cut corners with cheaper radar and other sensors, although this hasn’t been proven. The automaker will update the software in affected models, which it says will resolve the problem. What Owners Should Do Now Hyundai Owners of implicated Hyundai models will be notified of the remedy via mail on July 17, 2026. They’ll be able to take their vehicle to a Hyundai dealer to have the front camera software updated, which will be done at no charge. This fix will be completed even if the vehicle is no longer under warranty, and Hyundai will also reimburse owners for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred in order to obtain a remedy. Owners can also use their Vehicle Identification Number to find out if their models are part of the recall group, which can be done via the NHTSA’s website. If required, the recall number for this recall is 26V316. Even though Do Not Drive and Park Outside warnings have not been put into effect, owners of these vehicles should drive as cautiously as possible, particularly in slippery conditions when following distances are reduced. For Hyundai, a fix for these vehicles can’t be completed soon enough. Fortunately, none of the crashes so far have been fatal, but a cloud is already hanging over the company’s head after a defective folding seat in a Palisade resulted in the death of a toddler earlier this year. While automated safety and convenience technologies are appreciated when they work, they can also be incredibly dangerous when they don’t. View the full article

DI Interview: Jordan Vandergriff
There is a lot riding on the shoulders of 31-year-old Jordan Vandergriff, but the weight of being tapped by John Force himself as the driver of the Cornwell Quality Tools Funny Car is more than welcome. To have been invited to drive for a legendary team would be mind-blowingly cool for anyone, but to settle into a Funny Car for the first time – let alone the one still sizzling after back-to-back championships – only adds to the surreality for Vandergriff. That being said, he’s certainly up to the task. Editor’s Note: This story originally appeared in DI #199, the Interview Issue, in March/April 2026. When the world learned that Austin Prock, his crew chief and father Jimmy Prock, and assistant crew chief and brother Thomas Prock had left John Force Racing as a trio and moved to the Tasca Racing camp, the open seat was coveted by many. Vandergriff was on the short list and named early, though. He had earned the respect, the consideration, and, ultimately, he earned position. The Southern California native grew up playing stick-and-ball sports, but racing was bubbling in his blood and taking over his heart. His grandfather, Bob Vandergriff Sr., took over at the helm of Hedman Hedders in 1979 – one of the hot rod industry’s original manufacturers – and his uncle, Bob Jr., had made a name of his own in Top Fuel. When Bob Jr. established a driver development program, young Vandergriff was the first graduate. He made his Top Alcohol Dragster debut in 2018 at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in an A/Fueler owned by Anthony Dicero of the Nitro University, and the next season, he was a Top Fuel driver battling Prock for Rookie of the Year. In his first season as a nitro driver, Vandergriff reached the semifinals in his debut and highlighted the year with his first final-round appearance in Dallas. The Drag Illustrated 30 Under 30 2019 honoree competed in 11 events that first year and had a promising future ahead of him, but the entire world’s plans were altered by the COVID-19 uproar. He was willing to pivot, however, and while keeping his eyes and options open, Vandergriff stepped into a new role in front of the camera as an NHRA on FOX reporter for two seasons. Last year, being in the right place at the right time proved pivotal, and he was back in the seat for two races to fill in for injured Top Fuel driver Shawn Reed. Vandergriff qualified No. 3 and picked up a round win in Brainerd, and he was No. 2 on the qualifying sheet at the U.S. Nationals. The experience allowed Vandergriff to issue an effective reminder of exactly where he belonged: in the seat of a race car. Joining the historic John Force Racing team came with a new opportunity for the steady-handed young man: learning to drive an always demanding, oft-unpredictable, nitro Funny Car under the scrutiny of, well, everyone. You had solid footing in a Top Fuel dragster, but how different was it to get behind the wheel of a Funny Car? It was truly eye-opening. It’s definitely not anything like the dragster, but with the shorter wheel base, it’s a lot more fun to drive. Yeah, it’s a challenge – but a challenge is always more fun. I’m getting used to it, but it’s very different. You have to steer it differently, and it’s going to want what it wants. The Funny Car really moves quickly, so you have to be ahead of the car as well. We’ve had a lot of runs in testing, but I’ve still had limited experience as a Funny Car driver. Coming into the season, I’m ready to go. When you realized you were going to be driving for John Force Racing, what was your reaction? I couldn’t believe it. I was absolutely speechless. I never could have imagined driving for John Force, and the fact that it’s actually happening, it’s just surreal. I feel very fortunate that John believes in me, and I look forward to making him proud. That’s my goal this year: to drive this car well and make him proud. Do you feel like you earned this spot? Yeah, I feel like I did earn it. I lost my seat many years ago, but everything I’ve done since then has been working toward getting back in the seat. I’ve put the work in, put in the time, and I’ve been very patient. I’m ready for this moment. It’s my time. What’s going to be your greatest challenge? Getting used to this Funny Car because it could surprise you at any moment. I’m trying to stay in the mindset of, “Get comfortable, but don’t get too comfortable.” You never know when it’s going to want to do something you’re not ready for. Really, my main goal and the biggest challenge is just to drive this car well. I know I have a great team behind me that’s going to put together a great race car, and if I can do my part, it’s going to be fast. What are your expectations from now through the end of this first season for you in a Funny Car? If I’m being honest, our expectations are high. This car has won the last two championships, and after testing, it’s already running very well again. Our expectation is to keep it going and make it three in a row for Cornwell Quality Tools. Are you having fun? I’m having so much fun. I’ve been dreaming of driving again, and I’m having the most fun I’ve ever had out here at the racetrack. I’m just soaking it all in and enjoying every second of it. The post DI Interview: Jordan Vandergriff first appeared on Drag Illustrated. View the full article

Mazda CX-5 Hybrid Could Show What U.S. Buyers Are Waiting For
Finally Available in its MotherlandThe third-generation Mazda CX-5 made its world premiere in mid-2025. However, the first market to get it was Europe when sales kicked off in December that year. It was followed by the U.S. in early 2026, and it's only now that sales have commenced in its home market, Japan. What's interesting about the redesigned CX-5 is that there are three distinct powertrains for its major markets. North American models have the familiar 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G with no electrified assists, while Europe gets a hybrid version of that with far less power. Now that the Japanese version is out, we're glad to report that it slots somewhere in between. Mazda The JDM CX-5 HybridThe Japanese-market Mazda CX-5 still uses a 2.5-liter engine, but, like the Euro version, it's a hybrid. But unlike the European model, this one has far more power. Per the spec sheet, it makes 176 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, which is a massive improvement over the other hybrid model. The electric motor is rated at 6.4 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque. For reference, the European CX-5 makes just 139 hp (but still 175 lb-ft) from the same arrangement. Admittedly, we're still not expecting it to be quick. The pure ICE engine that North America gets still has a higher output. The 2.5-liter currently powering the CX-5s sitting in showrooms right now is good for 187 hp and 186 lb-ft, 11 hp and 11 lb-ft more than the Japanese CX-5. As in the American and European models, the sole transmission choice in Japan is a six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is available. Mazda Coming to the U.S.?Unlike its peers, the redesigned Mazda CX-5 isn't available with a hybrid option in North America. For that, you'll have to go for the more expensive CX-50 that, in itself, is doing well for itself. However, it's worth pointing out that the JDM CX-5 is a mild hybrid, not a full-on hybrid, which should give it a couple more MPG and keep prices lower. After all, Mazda's best-selling model thrived on its strong value proposition. One could say that the Mazda CX-5 hybrid will come to the U.S. in one way or another. The Japanese model proved that it's possible to extract more power out of the electrified powertrain. What North America could get is a far-improved version of what's being offered in Japan, as Mazda said it will roll out its SkyActiv-Z powertrain by late 2027. It's still a long way off, but it's coming. Mazda An Important ModelNot only is the CX-5 Mazda's best-selling model, but the compact crossover is also the company's fastest-selling vehicle. The company has shifted over 5 million units of the car over 14 years and three generations. The CX-5 is such a huge deal that the brand is giving its showrooms in Japan a facelift to coincide with the model's introduction there. As reported by Nikkei Asia, Mazda is set to roll out its 'new generation' showrooms across key locations in its home market, reflecting its continuous push towards a more premium image. These new-gen showrooms feature darker interiors, with a mix of grey and black complemented by natural materials. One can say that Mazda's future hangs in the balance with the success of the CX-5. This all-new model needs to succeed far more than its predecessor. Now that electrification plays a massive role in sales, a hybrid version of its best-seller isn't just a good idea, it's something the folks from Hiroshima need. Mazda View the full article

Ram Is Finally Coming For The Ford Maverick With A Smaller Pickup
Ram Finally Commits To The Compact Truck SpaceRam and Stellantis have considered a smaller pickup for North America for years. CEO Tim Kuniskis liked the idea, but there were questions about whether buyers here would go for a unibody truck with a Ram badge. Profitability was another concern, since price tends to matter more than image in this segment. That approach has shifted. Stellantis now says a new compact Ram pickup is coming to the US as part of a broader product rollout through 2030. This truck will slot below the upcoming midsize Dakota, giving Ram a way into one of the few truck segments still growing in North America. It’s also part of a plan to boost Ram sales by about 60% before 2030. Stellantis The Rampage Formula Looks Ready For AmericaRam hasn’t shared US specs yet, but the South American Rampage gives us a pretty clear preview. Built in Brazil on a unibody platform, the Rampage is available only as a four-door crew cab. At about 198 inches long, it’s a touch shorter than the Maverick. Step inside, and the Rampage feels more like a crossover than a work truck. Higher trims get a 10.3-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Under the hood, there’s a 2.0-liter Hurricane turbo four making 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. By the time Ram lands, the segment could look very different. Toyota is working on a compact pickup based on the RAV4, which could add another fuel-efficient, lifestyle-focused truck to the mix. With the Hyundai Santa Cruz gone, Ram has a real shot – if it nails the pricing and capability. Ford Dakota Returns, Ramcharger Joins The PartyThe compact truck won’t be coming alone. Ram has also confirmed the long-awaited Dakota midsize pickup is finally on the way, with production set for later this decade. Dealers have already seen early previews, and Ram is aiming high with performance versions. An SRT version – a nameplate Ram’s quite favoring right now – is even being considered as a rival to the Ford Ranger Raptor, so horsepower numbers over 400 are on the table. Then there’s the Ramcharger SUV, marking Ram’s first return to family-focused utility vehicles in decades. It’s expected to share parts with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and could offer both traditional gas engines and range-extended electric options. Beyond those headline models, Ram says updated versions of the 1500, heavy-duty trucks, and ProMaster vans are also coming. The delayed 1500 REV is still in the works, with Stellantis betting big on range-extended tech as a key part of its truck strategy. By the end of the decade, Ram’s lineup – and really, the whole Stellantis family – could look very different from what buyers know today. View the full article

On The Road: Wilkesboro Motorsports Park
When it comes to historic dragstrips located in my native North Carolina, Wilkesboro Motorsports Park has compiled more history than most people can remember. I first stepped foot on the property 35 years ago when the track was known as North Wilkesboro Dragway, and it had just undergone a massive renovation. Editor’s Note: This column originally appeared in DI #199, the Interview Issue, in March/April 2026. Prior to my first memory of the place in 1991, you could actually go back another 35-plus years to 1955, where the story of this vintage track first begins. I usually get nervous when publishing “historical facts” that took place decades before I ever even made my grand entrance to earth, but for this column I wasn’t worried since I commissioned the help of Gena Ellis Rudisill, who is my go-to for all things Wilkesboro…mainly because her family built the place! Gena’s records are meticulous, and she confirms that the track indeed opened in 1955 as a quarter-mile strip of dirt that didn’t even have a return road, requiring drivers to turn around after a run and drive back up the track. This system was in place until 1960, when the track was paved and a return road was added. Roughly a decade later, Gena’s uncle Bill took sole ownership, renaming it North Wilkesboro Dragway. The track changed hands a few times over the ensuing decades before local construction company owners Greg and Dean Wilkie bought the track and ushered in a new era of modernization with massive updates. This is when yours truly entered the picture, as I was a 19-year-old drag racing reporter for my local newspaper, and I was over the moon with excitement when IHRA announced that the Carolina Nitrous Nationals would be held at Wilkesboro in 1991! To this day, that single event is one of the most memorable races I’ve ever attended. Pro Modified was in its second year as a professional category, and pretty much all of the earliest stars were competing that weekend, including Scotty Cannon, who went on to win the event. Over the years I’ve witnessed many other cool things at Wilkesboro, including Funny Car match races and Pro Mod Quick-8 events, along with many appearances by the Classic Gear Jammers, who still hold meets there to this present day. In the early 2000s, I even witnessed a Top Fuel match race featuring then-owner Danny Dunn, who made some passes alongside teenager Josh Starcher during his short stint in Top Fuel. A decade ago came another event I will never forget: The inaugural Don Carlton Memorial Nostalgia Pro Stock Race. Dubbed the “Woodstock of Pro Stocks,” this historic event in 2016 brought out many vintage Pro Stockers, along with retired drivers and fans of all ages, for the purpose of honoring the memory of North Carolina native Don Carlton, whose life and career were tragically cut short in 1977 after a testing crash in Milan, Michigan. With more than 70 years of operation, the significance of this dragstrip simply can’t be overstated. That’s why when news broke on social media last month that Wilkesboro was not opening for 2026, it sent shockwaves of disbelief, tears, and dare I say outrage. After the news spread like wildfire for several days, I eventually let out a sigh of relief when, you guessed it, Gena Ellis Rudisill, who’s also the social media/PR person for the track, showed up on Facebook with a newsflash of her own: “The rumors are not true!” she lamented. As it turns out the track was, in fact, not closing and was days away from releasing a 2026 schedule when the closure rumor first grew legs. Crisis averted! It was a stark reminder (yes, we apparently all still need one from time to time) that you can’t believe everything you read online. As advertised, Wilkesboro released a jam-packed schedule of events for 2026 a few days later. With eagerness, I’m making it a point to visit Wilkesboro this year, and I’m mighty thankful we all still can, especially after the initial jarring report! There’s lots more to report from Wilkesboro, including new management, renewed vision for the upcoming season, and even a return to IHRA sanction, so stay tuned! Tesla Wants To Cool Future EVs With A Glass Roof Full Of Holes
Tesla is rarely short of new ideas, and as an EV manufacturer, finding small efficiencies is particularly important. The company's latest published patents (of some 3,300 globally) show just how far Tesla is willing to go in search of these improvements, with the company filing to protect designs for a glass roof that literally has holes in it to help cool the cabin and a separate system for literally sucking warm air from the interior. We'll start with the first. It's an interesting idea; glass roofs make car cabins feel more airy, and this one could make that feeling a real sensation, as described by the filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent was filed back in 2019 and has now been published, and it's titled "Automotive perforated glass structure." Let's take a closer look before discussing the other recent climate control patent Tesla has filed. The First of Tesla's Cabin-Cooling Ideas Tesla The new patent describes a multi-layer panoramic glass roof that looks conventional from the outside but has a perforated layer separated from the outer layer by a honeycomb structure. This structure creates an air gap that insulates from both heat and noise, and its holes aim to allow the vehicle to bleed cool air from the climate control system, spreading it over the surface of the roof. The idea is that this could be more effective at insulating heat, thus reducing energy consumption from the A/C system, as the cool air diffuses down to the occupants; as lower-density hot air rises, it is met by this falling cool air, helping maintain a comfortable atmosphere. USPTO View the 4 images of this gallery on the original article Another reason sending cool air to the roof through the dashboard vents could reduce overall energy consumption is that the traditional vents blowing air at occupants would be less necessary, or could operate at a lower speed to reach the same targeted cabin temperature. It should feel more pleasant, too. Finally, the patent indicates that Tesla would pump hot air into the roof, perhaps as a more efficient means of removing heat from the car. But this isn't the only recent patent Tesla has filed in this vein, and both aim to reduce energy consumption, with real-world range improvements likely. Tesla's Second Idea Uses Vacuum Suction to Cool the Car Tesla Another patent was discovered earlier this month, reports InsideEVs, and it discusses the fitment of a suction device into the car's HVAC system to create negative pressure that can be applied to vents in the car that are near pockets of hot air. Instead of blowing cold air into the cabin, this system would suck hot air out of it, mixing with the cooler air in the HVAC system before being recirculated. For example, dashboard vents could suck hot air from the upper part of the cabin and mix it with cooler air, perhaps that which is conditioning the footwells. Tesla calculates that this could reduce energy consumption by 7.4 percent. That may seem like a small amount, but it's these tiny improvements that contribute to big overall gains. In fact, a study from Recurrent found that on a 100-degree day, A/C use reduces EV range by up to 18 percent. Related: Tesla Roadster Is Delayed Again, But Do We Even Care Anymore? If Tesla were to combine the ideas of both patents into a single system, its EVs could dramatically reduce power draw on hot days, and we imagine there's probably a way to reverse elements of these systems to find similar benefits on cold days. Of course, not every patented idea reaches production, but we wouldn't bet against Tesla introducing either or both of these ideas, perhaps on a future iteration of its Cybercab. Regardless, Tesla's obsessive attention to minuscule efficiency gains is why the Model S evolved into a vastly better car by the end of its life cycle than the already impressive EV it was when it launched in 2012. Chrysler Gets A Lifeline As Stellantis Plans Three New Affordable Models
Under the Fastlane 2030 strategy revealed by Stellantis on Thursday, four brands will dominate the automaker’s future: Jeep, Ram, Fiat and Peugeot. The two U.S. marques are the real winners, however, as the North American market will receive a disproportionate share of the cash – and new products – that underpin the $70 billion program. Chrysler Fastlane contains a number of surprises, however. For one thing, CEO Antonio Filosa has ruled that, at least for now, none of the other 10 Stellantis brands will go on the chopping block, as many industry observers had long expected. That includes the once mighty, but now all but forgotten, Chrysler, a name that long seemed ready to fade into oblivion. If anything, the 101-year-old marque now gets its own turnaround strategy as Stellantis prepares to quadruple its current, meager product line-up. Driving Off Into the SunsetIn recent years we’ve seen a number of once-memorable brands vanish from the U.S. market, including names like Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn and Chrysler’s one-time down-market sibling Plymouth. With a collection of 14 separate marques created by the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and France’s Groupe PSA, Stellantis has a lot of mouths to feed, especially at a time when it is struggling to reverse last year’s massive sales and earnings losses. But, despite pressure from outside and in, Filosa was determined not to pare back the list, on Thursday declaring “Our brands are our strongest assets.” There was a time when that certainly applied to Chrysler. Back in 1957 it scored big with the “Forward Look,” with its massive tailfins, crafted by design chief Virgil Exner, capturing a 20% share of the U.S. new car market. From a volume perspective, Chrysler peaked in 2005, delivering 641,406 vehicles, thanks to the equally aggressive styling of the big 300 sedan. But the bottom was about to fall out. As more and more motorists shifted from sedans and coupes to SUVs and CUVs, Chrysler was left watching from the sidelines. By 2025, with a line-up comprised of a single model, the Pacifica minivan, Chrysler dealers delivered a grand total of 78,933 vehicles. Related: Chrysler Pacifica Prices Cut by Up to $2,060 After 2027 Model Criticism Chrysler Comes Unplugged Over the past decade, FCA, and then Stellantis, seemed ready to give Chrysler a much-needed product infusion. As recently as last June, during an event marking the brand’s centennial, former boss Christine Feuell declared “Chrysler is in excellent condition,” insisting it was getting ready to roll out an assortment of new products based on several well-received concept vehicles, the Airflow and Halcyon. The timing couldn’t have been worse, both models set to go all-electric at a time when Pres. Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress were rapidly moving to short-circuit the EV market. Within months, Chrysler’s lifeline was severed. Making matters worse, Stellantis management decided to drop the plug-in hybrid version of the Pacifica. With seemingly nothing else to fall back on, Chrysler’s days seemed numbered. A New Hope Stellantis During Thursday’s day-long presentation, Tim Kuniskis, one of Filosa’s top lieutenants, asked the obvious question: “Can Chrysler be more than a minivan brand? It’s clearly been more than that in the past,” added Kuniskis, who serves as head of American brands and North American marketing and CEO of both the RAM and SRT brands. And, so it seems, it will be once more. The Fastlane program calls not only for a complete makeover of Pacifica – which is getting a more modest update in 2027 – but for the addition of three more products. While full details have yet to be released, the line-up will include: The Airflow, the largest and most expensive of the three, though it will still start under $40,000, according to Filosa and Kuniskis, about $10,000 less than the average transaction price of today’s new vehicles. While it shares the name of the recent Airflow concept – as well as a pioneering, highly aerodynamic production model from the 1930s – it’s expected to get a new design. It will be based off the new STLA One architecture, one of the three new platforms being developed under Fastlane. And it will be offered with an EV option, as well as several other powertrain choices. Getty The other two models will be “homologated” versions of smaller Fiat crossovers, Arrow Cross adopting a more coupe-like fastback design. Both are expected to start at less than $30,000, Kuniskis promised. Chrysler Has CompanyStellantis officials are optimistic enough to list Chrysler as one of five second-tier “regional brands,” but it isn’t the only marque granted a reprieve under the Fastlane 2030 plan. Of anything, Fiat is one of the four new global brands. But that really shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who don’t focus exclusively on the North American market. The Italian brand continues to show strength in its ancestral home – but it really flexes its muscles in Latin America where it is the number one marque. Lancia More surprising, perhaps is that Stellantis planners have chosen to retain the somnambulant Lancia brand. Founded in 1909, it was once positioned as a design and technology innovator. But demand has all but dried up. From 300,000 sales as recently as 1990, Lancia dealers delivered just 11,754 vehicles in 2025. Lancia drew little more than a vague mention during the Thursday presentation. But Stellantis officials have hinted they will expand the brand’s line-up – which, like Chrysler, currently consists of just one model, the Ypsilon. If they follow through, they’re also expected to try to reintroduce the brand beyond Italian borders for the first time in years. View the full article

For Sale: This 1960 Oldsmobile 88 Sedan 4D For Sale In Texas And Is A Weekend Away From Ready For Power Tour!
If you squint and imagine this 1960 Oldsmobile lowered, with a freshly painted set of steelies and caps, you can see yourself driving it down the highway on Hot Rod Power Tour. This thing could be cruising perfection with just a few tweaks. If it was mine I think I’d lower it a couple of inches, I’d freshen up the wheel and tire combo, and I’d screw a street sign to the floor to “fix” the rust and be on my way. Maybe, if I was feeling ambitious, I’d install a Sniper 2 EFI and swap a 700r4 or 4L60e into it, but it sure wouldn’t be a requirement. Check out the ad info below, and use the link to check it out and contact the seller. I AM NOT THE SELLER! Emailing me will get you knowhere. Contact the seller through Marketplace. CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE ORIGINAL MARKETPLACE AD Seller’s description Selling my 1960 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Last on the road in the 90s The good: Runs drives and stops 100% original paint top to bottom. New fuel system (carb, lines, pump) New cooling system (water pump, rad hoses, belt, T stat, gasket, control valve) New spark plugs Front wheel bearings repacked Interior is all there and original, never been out. New door/ignition key The not so good: Drivers front foot well needs a patch. Starter could use a rebuild Tires are within date code but are kinda flat spotted. Might work themselves out. Dash lights don’t work. The car just came out of long term storage to being back on the road. Will still need some love. I’d recommend a trailer unless you are brave. Located in Van Alstyne Tx 75495. Tesla FSD Now Nags Less, And That Has Safety Critics Worried
Tesla has released version 14.3.3 of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver assistance tech, and those who have already tried it say the update brings several improvements. However, it's also less naggy, giving drivers fewer alerts to keep them focused on the road when the system detects them looking away, and that's a concern for a system that is not truly capable of autonomous driving. Of course, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced this as a positive development when responding to an early reviewer of the FSD (Supervised) update. What's New For Tesla FSD v14.3.3 @mikepat711 / X.com Tesla's Actually Smart Summon feature, which allows a Tesla user to move their car remotely via the Tesla app on their smartphone, has had issues with low-speed crashes, but over-the-air updates like this one have improved the feature enough for the NHTSA to close its probe. With the latest OTA update, users report that the Actually Smart Summon feature's 33 percent speed improvement from 6-8 mph makes the vehicle's movement through a crowded parking lot feel more human-like. It's also been said that, while the driver monitoring system is more relaxed, especially in Standard profile, FSD seems capable of detecting trouble before the driver can, at least in some cases; @BLKMDL3 on X (formerly Twitter) shared an experience of someone running a stop sign before he could see them, and FSD reacted to prevent a crash. Related: Tesla Says Unsupervised FSD Will Be Widespread, But The Numbers Say Otherwise Other improvements include that "Standard is more relaxed with changing lanes," doing so less frequently, and steering, throttle, and brake inputs appear to be smoother, too, "even in tricky scenarios." FSD 14.3.3's parallel and perpendicular parking maneuvers are said to be more precise, and the more aggressive "Mad Max" setting, which lets FSD slice through traffic more assertively/aggressively, is also reportedly slicker. It's also said to be better during acceleration. As you might expect, there are still some areas for improvement, however. Tesla FSD Is Improving Incrementally, Rolling Out to New Countries14.3.3 nags less too https://t.co/IuiWzuYO6O — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 18, 2026 One of the few gripes listed by this Tesla Model 3 owner is that "speed control in 55 mph speed zones needs more work," noting that the system "should be tamed and restricted a bit," and that pothole avoidance needs improving. Overall, though, this update seems smoother overall, more human-like in its actions, and easier to live with. That last bit is partly down to the reduced driver nags, but, as reported by Teslarati, Tesla FSD recently entered its second European country (Lithuania), meaning the entire FSD ecosystem is getting used more, creating more opportunities for learning, and that should translate to safer deployment both in Europe and here in the U.S. View the full article

Audi Q9 Finally Gives Americans The Headlights Europe Had For Years
The all-new 2027 Audi Q9 flagship luxury SUV that’s coming to the United States later this year will bring a cool feature U.S. car shoppers have long been waiting for. While buyers in Europe and other markets have enjoyed Audi’s sophisticated Matrix LED headlights for more than a decade—they debuted on the flagship Audi A8 back in 2013—U.S. buyers have been deprived of this feature because outdated federal regulations did not allow it. That will end this year, as Audi has confirmed its adaptive driving beam (ADB) Digital Matrix LED headlights are coming to the U.S. on the 2027 Q9 and SQ9 three-row luxury SUVs. The new micro LED technology will be available when the new full-size SUVs arrive at U.S. dealers later this year. Why Digital Matrix LED Headlights MatterWhat’s the big fuss about Matrix LED headlights, you ask? The technology’s intelligent matrix functionality delivers superior lighting by precisely directing light where and when it’s needed for improved traffic safety. Unlike conventional high beams that switch on or off as a single unit, Digital Matrix LED tech continuously shapes the light pattern in real time, keeping more usable light on the road while reducing glare for other road users. Thanks to front-facing cameras, the system detects oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead, then selectively masks the light around them, maintaining maximum illumination in all other areas. This results in better nighttime visibility and less work for the driver, who is no longer require to toggle between high and low beams. Up until 2022, U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) testing requirements differed from the standards used elsewhere, delaying widespread adoption of the matrix LED technology. While new federal rules adopted in 2022 created a pathway for the technology, manufacturers until now have struggled to meet the stringent federal regulations. Audi's Tech Now Complies With U.S. DOT's New Regulations for Glare Audi With the introduction of the all-new 2027 Q9 SUV, Audi says its engineers have developed a system that meets U.S. DOT regulations for glare, “while simultaneously delivering the high performance of the adaptive systems already widely used in Europe for more than a decade.” “Audi has always been a leader in lighting technologies. Audi pioneered the LED daytime running light signature now found on virtually all cars,” said Filip Brabec, SVP Product Planning at Audi of America. “We are very excited to be able to offer Digital Matrix LED lighting functions to our U.S. customers for the first time. It’s a technology that will benefit all road users by providing better lighting and less glare for all.” It's worth noting that Audi sold vehicles equipped with Matrix LED hardware in the U.S. before (like the 2021 e-tron), but the advanced adaptive functionality had to be disabled by the factory. The first automaker that offered adaptive Matrix LED headlights on U.S. roads was Rivian in 2024. In addition to bringing digital matrix LED technology to the U.S., the all-new Audi Q9 model family will also bring several other advanced features which use light and technology in new ways to enhance visibility, elevate sophistication and boost personalization. Full details of these technologies will be announced at the 2027 Audi Q9’s world debut in July. Audi View the 9 images of this gallery on the original article View the full article

Hyundai Owners Can Now Add Snoopy And FIFA Themes To Their Car Screens
Customization is KingAutomakers are trying their best to add more features and options to their products. Most of these features come in the form of customization options, allowing owners to be playful with their cars. This is easier for some brands that are in the business of having global partnerships and collaborations with other known entities. Hyundai wants to leverage some of its tie-ups by offering a new product. Hyundai Peanuts and FIFAGlobally, Hyundai is working with the famed cartoon Peanuts and the international football governing body FIFA. The brand is bringing these partnerships closer to its customers by now offering new customization options on the Hyundai Bluelink online store. Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president, product planning and mobility strategy for Hyundai North America, says that “The car is becoming one of the few places where people can reconnect with what they truly enjoy, whether that is the excitement of the World Cup, the nostalgia and optimism of PEANUTS, or simply feeling a little more present during everyday moments." Owners can now customize their in-car displays via over-the-air updates and choose from four distinct themes. Nature is a serene, inspired theme focused on calm visuals and organic elements. Next is the Hyundai Pony theme, a nostalgic option based on the brand's first mass-produced model, which debuted in 1974. The non-Hyundai themes start with the Peanuts characters, a set of three themes based on the beloved characters, like Snoopy, promising road-trip imagery and family-oriented design elements. Lastly, the FIFA theme features the official 2026 FIFA World Cup Logo as well as the Boston Dynamics Atlas and Spot robots. It will be a complimentary offering for the U.S owners until October 19, 2026. Hyundai Eligible Cars and OwnersThe new Bluelink theme expansion service will be available for the following models: 2026 model year and later — Hyundai Ioniq 9 (initial rollout)2026 model year and later — Hyundai Palisade (initial rollout)2024 model year and later — Hyundai Santa Fe2025 model year and later — Hyundai Tucson2025 model year and later — Hyundai Santa Cruz2025 model year and later — Hyundai IONIQ 5Those who wish to participate must have active (and maintain) Hyundai BlueLink subscriptions.
