The Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T pickups are two of the biggest EVs around, so their sheer size can also improve crash safety. But how do they compare to each other? And how do they perform when it comes to crash prevention? To answer those questions, we’ve compared the latest safety ratings for both pickups from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Crashworthiness: Cybertruck Takes The LeadThe IIHS runs three core crashworthiness tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and side. These tests collectively evaluate how a vehicle performs in different scenarios, whether it’s an offset crash with another car or hitting something with the front corner. Each test is rated as Good, Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor. Here’s how the two vehicles compared. The Rivian’s headlights and vehicle-to-vehicle crash-prevention system were rated as Acceptable. On curves, the Cybertruck’s high beams were more effective than the Rivian’s. In vehicle-to-vehicle collision avoidance, the Cybertruck warned the driver of a possible collision more effectively than the Rivian did. As in the crashworthiness category, the Rivian isn’t bad at all, but there are a few gaps where its performance could be perfected. At the same time, emerging technologies such as solid-state batteries are inching closer to becoming production-ready. Shell says the idea behind the Triple 10 Challenge is to set the "new benchmark for next-generation BEVs." A Small SUV With Big Ambitions Cole Attisha Rather than creating an outlandish, aerodynamic concept, AutoExpress reports that Shell shared a sketch of its creation: a compact B-segment SUV, roughly comparable in size to a Volvo EX30 or Nissan Kicks. The emphasis is on intelligent engineering, with a target kerb weight of around 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs). For comparison, the Hyundai Kona Electric weighs 1,870 kgs (4,120 lbs), significantly more than Shell's target. A smaller battery plays a central role in achieving this figure. However, efficiency is maintained through an advanced cooling system, where battery cells are submerged in a non-conductive fluid. Mansory’s Latest Build Is a 1,381-HP Chinese SUV That Looks Like a Rolls-Royce Cullinan

The industry's scale and the sheer amount of support their automotive industry receives allow them to continue producing cars. In a relatively short time, the quality and capabilities of Chinese-made cars have improved, and they're expanding into new areas. These companies tout new energy-focused products, whether EVs or PHEVs, but some brands are now positioning luxury as a selling point. Infamous custom builder Mansory is taking notice, having just revealed its first Chinese brand collaboration. Mansory View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Mansory x Zeekr 9XMansory only adds its "unique" touch to what they consider to be exclusive, super-luxurious cars. Zeekr, as a brand, has been able to present itself as a fairly normal one compared to other local Chinese brands, and the 9X, which debuted last year, is supposed to be their take on the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. As Mansory is known to do, the German tuner threw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of sprucing things up for this build. The 9X Mansory features a whole new body kit, with more aggressive designs for the hood, the front bumper, and a very Rolls-Royce-looking grille. It has new panels on the fenders giving it a wider stance, new side skirts, and darker exterior trim pieces. Looking at the rear actually shows some restraint on Mansory's part, with a new diffuser design featuring quad exhausts and a Mansory badge on the rear bootlid. It looks clean and modern. Interior-wise, the 9X now features a mix of white leather, black elements, and some gold touches, giving it a luxurious feel. The main change comes with new doors that open from the rear hinge, which aid entry and exit and look really cool when opened. This three-motor layout makes a total of 1,381 hp with a 0-60 mph time of just 3.1 seconds. 2027 BMW M5 Wagon Hits the Nürburgring with A Stylish New Look
Over the last six months, BMW has revealed some very important cars: the iX3 crossover, the i3 sedan, and most recently, the 7 Series luxury limo. The latter was a major overhaul of the existing vehicle rather than an all-new car, and the subject of today's spy shots from the Nürburgring, the M5 Touring, is even less of a change from what came before. Or is it? Not only is the styling being updated for the M5's Life Cycle Impulse, or facelift, but things are moving forward inside, too. BMW is not only giving its cars the styling introduced by its Neue Klasse concepts, but also the interior interface with the Panoramic Vision iDrive system. But first impressions matter most, so let's talk about the design. 2027 BMW M5 LCI Looks Smarter and Sexier Than Before SH Proshots/Autoblog The most obvious change is the front fascia, which will no longer tread the line between executive sedan and high-performance machine so carefully. The existing G91 M5 has oversized kidney grilles and headlights with upturned corners. Together, they create an imposing look, but it's not what purists would call a traditional BMW look. With the new model, the headlights' outer extremities are angled downward, and the kidneys have apparently shrunk, contributing to more of a classic, E34-like shark nose look. Cladding on the hood hides a recessed valley between two bulges; the existing M5 already has a hint of this design element, but it will be more clearly defined with the M5 LCI. Lower down, this prototype is still wearing a pre-production bumper, but we expect things to stay broadly the same. What about the rear? We expect new graphics for the taillights, but the clusters themselves don't appear to be changing in size or shape. That said, it appears that BMW may be sticking with the dual-diffuser look. Why? It's unclear whether this will get a power bump, but even if it doesn't, 717 horsepower is more than enough. Over in Europe, the M5's engine has been hamstrung by emissions regulations, with the hybrid system taking on more responsibility to maintain the same outputs as before. Enthusiasts and brand loyalists have, from time to time, hoped for the return of truly iconic nameplates like the STi and other performance-focused models the brand is known for. Instead, what began as teasers and cryptic posts on official brand social media pages has become just another special edition of an already existing car. One of their latest teasers has just become a reality, although not a road car, it is still a positive sign for fans of the brand. Subaru Spec.Z Revives The Subaru Rallying SpiritAround a month ago, Subaru announced a special project for 2026 during a Super Taikyu race. During the event, the automaker announced that for this year's All Japan Rally Championship, they'll be fielding a special car. Instead of going for the expected WRX platform, they went with the BRZ as a base and took it to new Rallying heights. Now officially revealed to the world is the Subaru BRZ Spec.Z Rally challenger. This car is special not just because it's based on Subaru's two-door coupe, but also because it's been turned into the ultimate rally car. One major aspect of rally-spec'd cars is, of course, an AWD system, which the Spec.Z gets for better traction on loose surfaces. Also part of the upgrades is a supplemental turbocharger for the stock 2.4-liter boxer engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission, while the suspension system is a strut-type setup on both axles. Toshihiro Arai will be the driver of the Spec.Z rally car; the team actually bears his name, but will have full support from the Subaru factory. He has already driven the Spec.Z and shared some insights with Subaru Motorsports Magazine. He said that most of the issues they initially struggled with have already been resolved, but they still need to do some true race simulations. He did add that the car's overall balance is about two to three levels higher than in previous tests. Subaru All Systems GoArai also spoke about how the car feels in terms of power and handling, adding that the engine is very responsive and the brakes work well, while the cornering speed is also very high. He says that the BRZ's inherent size and low center of gravity are contributing to the way the car is behaving. This GM 3.0L Duramax LM2 Hit 140K Miles—Then a Known Issue Caused Major Engine Damage
Early Promise, Familiar ConcernsGM rolled out the 3.0-liter Duramax LM2 as its answer for folks who wanted diesel power in a half-ton truck or SUV, but didn’t want to go full heavy-duty. You’ll find it in models like the GMC Sierra 1500. With 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, it promised plenty of muscle for towing, plus better fuel economy than the big V8 diesels. Owners liked how smooth and efficient this engine felt on the highway. For a while, it was the diesel sweet spot in GM’s lineup. But if you’ve been following the forums, you’ll know early LM2s – especially 2020 and some early 2021 builds – picked up a reputation for timing chain issues before GM updated the parts. That’s exactly what showed up in a recent engine teardown: a failed LM2 from a 2020 Sierra 1500 with about 140,000 miles. The twist? This truck wasn’t neglected. Oil changes happened every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, even with multiple owners. Normally, you’d expect a healthy engine with this kind of maintenance history. Instead, what landed on the engine stand was a leaky, grimy mess that clearly had a story to tell. An Internal DisasterFirst look? The turbo spun freely, intake runners looked decent, and nothing on the exhaust side screamed disaster. Even the injectors and glow plugs just showed a bit of corrosion – nothing that would make anyone panic. But that changed fast once the valve cover came off. Right away, it was obvious: some rocker arms were missing, others were trashed. That’s a classic sign of a timing problem. Sure enough, at the back of the engine, the timing chain had jumped off the cam gear. Inside, there were broken chain guides, loose bits everywhere, a failed tensioner piston, and way too much slack in the chain. This engine had the earlier timing chain design – the one known for stretching as miles rack up. Once there’s enough slack, the tensioner can’t keep up, and the engine jumps timing. That’s when pistons start hitting valves. Pulling the cylinder head confirmed it. The pistons had deep valve marks – what the teardown host called a “Mickey Mouse failure” because of the shape. The pistons weren’t cracked, but it was clear they’d been smacking valves for a while. The real shock came from the bottom end. Dropping the oil pan revealed thick metal sludge, shredded plastic from the timing guides, and toast bearings. Rod bearings were spun, journals were chewed up, and the crankshaft was finished. It probably started with a slow timing chain stretch, then got worse as warning signs were missed or ignored. Odds are, there were trouble codes, timing faults, and drivability quirks long before things got this bad. That’s why regular oil changes alone couldn’t save this engine. Maintenance is important, but so is knowing where the weak spots are – especially with early builds. If you’re shopping for a used LM2 truck, make sure the timing chain parts have been updated. Hyundai Hit With Lawsuit After EVs Report Sudden Power Loss Linked to Faulty Unit
The Entire Hyundai Group is AffectedEver heard of an ICCU? Well, now you'll know because apparently, Hyundai is getting sued for it. Otherwise known as the integrated charging control units, the South Korean brand looks like it's going to court over that and a bunch of fuses. Vehicles affected in this case are from 2024, Car Complaints reports. The ICCU manages the high-voltage battery's power distribution and converts the battery's power to 12-volt power that is used by the accessories. It also enables the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functions. These affect Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis-branded models, all of which are under the Hyundai Group. Despite the company's effort to recall and replace the ICCUs in affected vehicles, the class action still went through. The first ICCU failure lawsuit was filed by New Jersey plaintiff Hayes Young and Kentucky plaintiff Roy A. Williams. Young purchased a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL, but found the 12-volt battery dead in December 2025. Under warranty, he had the battery replaced, but Young argues that battery problems persisted even after the warranty claim. His dealer then mentioned that the ICCU was to blame for his problems. He then complained that the battery replacement didn't solve his issue, and towards the end of March 2026, the ICCU was replaced in his vehicle. According to the NHTSA, the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) "may become damaged over time from transient high voltage and thermal cycling," which could result in a loss of drive power and a crash. The Damages In 2024, Hyundai issued a recall for affected units. Later that year, the company issued another recall for the affected vehicles. A total of two recalls were issued for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models, the first to address the factory units, the second to address the replacement units that were also faulty. According to the class action, Hyundai and Kia replaced the defective ICCUs with equally defective units. With the faulty parts in play, owners may experience a battery that fails to charge, electrical system warning lights, a loss of power, and total power failure. Specifically, reported warnings include "stop vehicle, check power supply," "check electric vehicle system," "12-volt battery voltage low, stop safely," "turn off power immediately," and "Check power supply." Furthermore, some Hyundai owners have reported that faulty ICCUs may be causing damage to their electrical outlets when charging their vehicles at home. One major aspect is, of course, the production of the cars themselves, which entails many moving parts and people. We're so used to hearing that building cars today is state-of-the-art technology. Big factories with robots and humans working in harmony to build cars at a rapid rate to meet growing global demands. However, no matter how hard we try to ensure that each process and step is faultless, sometimes some issues do creep up. Kristen Brown Unlucky FewThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a safety recall involving the 2025 Toyota RAV4. What makes this particular recall report interesting is the number of affected cars; we're so used to the idea that most recalls number in the hundreds, thousands, or even hundreds of thousands. This recall advisory only affects 4 RAV4 units built from November 28 to December 1, 2025. The report explains why only four cars from those production days were affected by the recall. It says that some of the cars built during that same period were not sold in the U.S., while the RAV4s were the only ones that made their way to U.S.-based customers covered by the NHTSA. In the report, the specific default associated with the Rav4 is described in detail, but it basically boils down to the seat brackets welded to the car's actual body/frame. According to the detailed explanation, depending on the condition of the welding equipment at the time, some brackets might be missing the bonding welds. In short, the seat might not be properly welded to the car, which may increase the risk of injury in an accident. Kristen Brown Inspection Pays OffThe lack of the welds, which prompted the recall, was discovered during a routine inspection by a supplier. The supplier identified missing welds on the driver-side seat brackets to which the seat rails are mounted. Toyota was then informed, and a more formal investigation into the matter was conducted. Don't worry, I can wait. Anyway, have you read it? Okay, now that you're back, you will know that Porsche launched a beast of an electric SUV with over 1,000 horsepower in launch control mode and a new roofline that is inspired by the 911 and puts all other German manufacturers to shame, at least for now. The press release mentioned a "Lightweight Sport Package," and based on the itemized list Porsche provided, it looks like an interesting bit of kit, but the most embarrassing stat line the package delivers is that it only shaves 38.8 pounds from the already hefty EV. When I talked about this with my friends, I related it to the size of a medium-sized dog, and when I asked them to guess the price of this option, they said "about $5,000" – boy, were they off. The package is by no means an extreme option, and to the untrained eye, it may even go unnoticed. 2026 Cayenne Turbo Coupé Electric Porsche View the 6 images of this gallery on the original article How Much Does It Cost?According to the Porsche configurator for the U.S., the Cayenne Coupe Electric in its base trim will run you about $113,800 on its own – No other options, no taxes, tariffs, or dealer markups, just a base Porsche Cayenne Coupe Electric – at least according to the configurator. Prices go up from there, starting at $131,200 for the Cayenne S Coupe Electric and $168,000 for the Cayenne Turbo Coupe Electric. Okay, so let's say that you start with a Cayenne Coupe Electric. With the Lightweight Sport Package, you're expected to pay an additional $19,510, and that allows you to drive around with your medium-sized dog without much of a weight penalty. This is cheaper than availing of the two separately by $190 – a no-brainer, am I right? Just an Arm Higher Up Oddly enough, if you try to configure a Cayenne S, the Lightweight Sport Package is nowhere to be found. It makes an appearance again in the Cayenne Turbo Coupe Electric, but instead of costing an arm and a leg, it only costs an arm in the top-of-the-line trim, at just $11,020, which sounds like a bargain until you realize that the Turbo variant already costs $168,000 MSRP. Why is it cheaper in the Turbo? It seems like there's less to change when you're already up there. The best upgrade here will be the wheels. My guess is that the 22-inch forged alloy wheel upgrade costs more if you're coming from a set of 21-inch wheels on the base Cayenne Coupe Electric. The Turbo already comes with a set of 22s from the factory, albeit not forged aluminum. Also, the most labor-intensive option there would probably be the carbon roof. It's saving weight in all the right places, up top where the mass is farthest from the center of mass, but do you really need something like that in an SUV? Porsche Save Money or Save Weight? At this point, the numbers aren't making sense. You'll be paying the price of a small car just to lose the equivalent of a medium-sized dog, a piece of luggage, or a four-year-old child. Not to mention that this is a family vehicle, so what meaningful driving experience upgrade will this package deliver? I think only Porsche can beat that explanation into me, but they haven't flamed my inboxes for now – or at least not yet. I will admit that a carbon roof is cool, and so too are the forged alloy wheels, plus all of the additional trim pieces that have been meticulously engineered (cooler if you had decals that could disappear on demand). However, on an SUV, the package is questionable, and the gains appear marginal at best. Maybe instead of buying the package, consider leaving the family and the dog at home if you don't want to compromise on your 0 to 60 times. Maybe years down the line (I doubt it), a Porsche Cayenne Coupe Electric or Cayenne Turbo Coupe Electric with this package will be a collector's item and worth a few hundred or thousand dollars more in the second-hand market, but I won't hold my breath.
