It’s a little bit more upbeat, it’s a little bit more positive, I feel like my album Survival in Motion [2024] definitely had a lot of those elements, it definitely feels more pop than it does rock to me too. I was really excited to see so many people resonating so heavily with Greener. And it’s exciting to see how excited they get when we play it live, that’s definitely one of my favorites to play. Poster Child I’ve fallen in love with Poster Child as well, I love playing that song live. It just has such a nostalgic feeling to me, it’s really early 2000s. Seeing how excited people also get about that one has been really fun. I feel super connected to that song too, I’d been going through a lot during the last few years of touring, and just being able to sit and process it with this song, and it also being the first song that I started writing for the Poster Child album, it feels extra special. I love that one. People Pleaser I’ve really grown to love playing People Pleaser live too. We had so much fun writing that song, but I didn’t really know if it would end up on the setlist. I didn’t know what it would feel like live. Obviously, I always had hopes that it would be a big live moment, but with new songs you just never really know what’s going to take and what’s not. When we played that song on our headliner, that was definitely a fan favorite. It was really cool to see so many people screaming the lyrics back with me and things like that. And I feel like the energy of that song is great for live performances, the claps and all of the things. That’s a really, really fun one to play. Goodbye, Good Riddance Goodbye, Good Riddance is also one that I love, and that one has definitely been a crowd favorite in my opinion. I feel like whenever I’m on stage, I black out a little bit so I can never really tell. I have to gauge it off what my crew says at the end of the night, they’re like, “no, that was really great! People were jumping around”, and I’m like, “oh, really?!”. It’s the craziest thing. And to see so many people even using that one for songs on TikTok and stuff like that, that’s been really fun as well. And it’s a good song to play, I think, at the beginning of the year. So I’m very excited to be able to play that in Australia. And I don’t think I’ve gotten the chance to play it there yet, so I’m very excited for that. Shape Shifting Shape Shifting will always have a special place in my heart too. I’ve met a lot of people and fans through that song, Psycho as well, but I feel so much more connected I think to Shape Shifting. It’s another song that I started writing for myself and I was really adamant about putting it out. I think I had a couple of people that advised me, “oh, I don’t know if this is the song.” But then when we released it, it became a favorite for so many fans. And to see them and to hear them screaming the words back throughout the years that I’ve had that song out, it’s been really special. It’s such a classic tune and everybody sings the chorus when we play it live. Even if we’ve played the song a million times and we’re bored of the song, of course we still enjoy playing it live because people are expecting that song! It’s a song that has meant that many people discover Lacuna Coil, so it’s been very important in our career. And another thing about this song, very often in America where they have radio stations that are run by the church; they couldn’t announce the song as Heaven’s A Lie because the title was too strong, so they would announce it as A Lie, and that’s it (laughs). So Lacuna Coil’s A Lie, instead of Heaven’s A Lie. But that’s definitely one of the songs we love to play live. Gravity: Another favourite song is one from the new album called Gravity. The lyrics for this song are quite intense, especially the part towards the end of the song, there’s a variation where Cristina [Scabbia] opens with a different vocal line that is epic. The lyrics are very deep in that part, they’re a reflection about death and where we go after we die. I notice that all of the fans are really, I don’t want to say crying, but almost crying in that part when we play it. It’s very emotional and very intense. That gives special chills when you see people singing that part because maybe they can relate, maybe they have lost somebody, it reminds them of the people that are not here anymore. It’s a song that connects a lot with people, and it’s great to play it live and see that reaction from the fans. Reckless: A song that kind of became a classic Lacuna Coil song recently is one called Reckless, it has almost a hip-hop inspired beat on some of the parts. We also use some samples that are very similar to ones used in trap music or drill music. It has kind of a different groove than any other song we have. And people really headbang to the rhythm of that song because it’s so groovy. It’s fun to play because you see something different and unexpected. We tried it and we didn’t know how people were going to react, but it became quite a solid part of the set. Our Truth: Another one is Our Truth, another classic Lacuna Coil song from our album Karmacode. In the beginning and the end there’s a vocal line from Cristina that is mostly a chant, like a siren voice repeating the same vocalisation. And people always sing along with that part because it’s under a groovy rhythm. It’s always so good to see people jumping and following Cristina on that part. It’s very good for uniting the people! Enjoy the Silence: Another good one is Enjoy the Silence, the Depeche Mode cover. We usually play that song at summer festivals especially because it’s a song that everybody knows, whether you’re a Lacuna Coil fan or not. It’s a very helpful song to get everybody into the show, even if they’ve never heard of you, or they only know the name of the band but they’ve never actually followed you that deep. That song is very easy to play for everybody, and it’s a great one for the summer festivals. I Wish You Were Dead: Lastly, one of the new ones is also a favourite to play live, it’s called I Wish You Were Dead. It has a very straightforward chorus that says: “I wish you were dead”. It’s funny because we’re starting to get a lot of kids at the show, different generations of fans and the parents bringing their kids to the shows now. And it’s funny to see the kids singing I Wish You Were Dead in the chorus, obviously they mean it in a funny way. I mean, we also mean it in a funny way, but it’s fun to see the kids singing “I wish you were dead” (laughs). It’s fun to play because it has a different kind of vibe and it’s more of an easygoing song. Everybody dances to the rhythm of that song and sings together in a funny way. Also, the video we made for that song is kind of a parody based on stuff like The Addams Family. We have the band dancing with some zombies, we did choreography and we’ve never had that before in our videos. It was funny to do a choreographed dance. Seeing metalheads dancing is not very common, so it was very fun. The Hollywood legend has announced Australian dates for The Night Blooms World Tour, bringing his long-running jazz project The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra to our shores in April and May, including a one-night-only moonlight serenade at the iconic Sydney Opera House. And before you ask – nope, this isn’t a novelty side quest. Jeff has been doing this thing for years. REVIEW: Nick Cave Turns Grief Into Gospel In Melbourne
“Fuckkk *gag*,” I muffle through a bite guard and a numb mouth. “You’re doing great Mickey,” coos a dental assistant. I’m in the midst of getting a crown on my left, upper second premolar and trying to distract myself from the king hit / uppercut combination of an imminent medical bill and current medical drill. My airpods are in and I’m listening to a perfectly fine song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Triple R’s Biggsy back announces it: “That was ‘Today’s Lesson’ from 2008 album Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds are playing in Alexandra Gardens this weekend.” In my altered, local anaesthetic state I’m still able to critique the song piping into my ear canals: there’s essentially nothing wrong with Today’s Lesson but the stakes are low. Why? Because in Nick Cave lore it’s from the Before Time. Before things changed irrevocably with the tragic loss of two of his songs: Arthur and Jethro. Since then the work he has given us has been presented through the lens of someone living through every parent’s worst nightmare, having their kids die young. The albums Skeleton Tree, Ghosteen, Carnage and Wild God all reckon with grieving and how to cope with what this sometimes beautiful, often dastardly universe throws at us. The procedure is done, I rinse out the blue fluoride, dribbling like a newborn, walk gingerly out of the room and wince as my credit card scans $2180. Tonight is effectively a homecoming, Cave was brought up in Warracknabeal, 339 kilometres north west of where I’m now standing, seven hours later, front left of a stage glowing red with WILD GOD across LED screens. Interestingly, Cave has admitted to having the most nerves when he plays in Melbourne. FAN FOOTAGE: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: ‘Shivers’ | Live At Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne 2026 The sun is still out as Our Nick – looking sharp in a black two piece suit, a white shirt unbuttoned low and what he describes when he looks up at the screen as “great hair” – leads his ever-changing Bad Seeds onto stage into a hard launch of Frogs while bats fly by. “Fucking Melbourne!” he roars. “It seems like we’ve been on this odyssey to get here. We’ve been bitten by spiders in Brisbane.” His 9-piece band locks in, they’re as committed to the bit as their peerless leader. Frogs conjures a chimerical, woozy energy, Cave’s crazed preacher voice sails over us: “The children in the heavens jumping for love.” Wild God sounds indulgent and silly and magnificent all at the same time, part Dr Suess part Billy Graham. Cave is a man who stared long into the abyss, won the blinking contest and returned a more complete artist. A few songs in and now he’s really getting into it, touching the hands and heads of his congregation. O Children sees his backing singers Jae Cole, Miça Townsend and Wendi Rose come into their own. I inform my plus one that the rhythm section is Larry Mullen from U2 on drums and Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on bass. “No fucking way!?” Jubilee St is the first properly transcendent moment of the evening, the songs rears up like an Indian cobra, Cave bares his fangs and lets the words flow out of him, hips jutting as he sings: “I’m transforming, I’m vibrating, I’m glowing, I’m flying, look at me now.” To his left, Warren Ellis’ mid-section is similarly out of control. He fucks the air and slashes at his violin. “My people!” he shouts, flinging wet kisses to the crowd like a baseball pitcher. “That was beautiful, such humility,” says Cave. “A little guy from Ballarat.” It’s all wonderfully over the top and generous. Cave’s silver Susan necklace is ringed with sweat and glints while he jumps about the stage, thrusting his claws out to the side as if to settle the crowd and fire them up simultaneously. There’s a slight lull three quarters of the way through the show which is then snuffed out with a gripping, textured version of Red Right Hand, a song about a fictionalized version of Wangaratta. The encore begins with a number “we’ve been saving for Melbourne about Anita Lane called O Wow O Wow (How Wonderful She Is).” The screen shows deeply moving footage and soundbites of the former Bad Seed member who passed in 2021. He changes the lyric in The Weeping Song for current times: “A song in which to weep while we scroll ourselves to sleep.” There’s a chuckle from the audience and happy, crow’s feet as far as the eyes can see. Henry Lee is next and we are not clapping in time. “They could do this in Perth!” Cave chides. We then lock in with the band. The show finishes poignantly with the 24th (!) song of the set as he takes a seat at the grand piano and asks: “Do you mind if we play one more? This is Into My Arms.” The song hits different for me tonight. I have a memory of it being played on a stereo as I stood in a starchy shirt and watched a tiny coffin lowered into a grave. It was in Traralgon in the mid-90s after my cousin’s toddler crawled under a safety fence and drowned in a pool. Stakes = high. Apple has announced that its flagship Regent Street store in London, England reopens on Saturday, February 14, at 10 a.m. local time. The store has been temporarily closed for "refurbishment" since Monday, January 12. The extent of the changes remains to be seen. It is not yet clear if Apple made any changes that will be visible to customers. In some cases, Apple only updates a store's fixtures or back-of-house area, resulting in no visible differences to customers when business resumes. Apple first opened up shop on London's world-famous Regent Street in 2004. Ads will be limited to the Free and Go subscription tiers, and will be shown to logged-in adult users. OpenAI does not plan to show ads to minors, and the company claims that ads will not influence the answers that ChatGPT provides. OpenAI also says it will not provide advertisers with content from ChatGPT conversations. OpenAI is not profitable, and the free and Go tier options require "significant infrastructure and ongoing investment." OpenAI is funding that work through ads, and it says that customers who do not want to see ads can upgrade to a Plus or Pro plan. There's also an option to opt out of ads in exchange for fewer daily free messages. Ads in ChatGPT will be clearly labeled as sponsored and the information will be presented separately from answers that ChatGPT provides. By default, OpenAI will show ads based on conversation topic, past chats, and past interactions with ads. A conversation about recipes, for example, may surface ads for meal kits or grocery delivery. Advertisers will receive aggregate information like number of views or clicks, but won't have access to chat history, memories, or personal user information. Ads will not be shown for sensitive topics like health, mental health, or politics. OpenAI is allowing users to dismiss ads, share feedback, and get information on why a particular ad is displayed. Ad data is also able to be deleted, and personalization can be disabled. ChatGPT subscribers with Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education plans will not see ads. OpenAI says the current rollout is a test to learn, listen, and get the ad experience right, and the company claims that it believes ads in ChatGPT can be "uniquely valuable for people." Last week, OpenAI competitor Anthropic promised to keep the Claude chatbot ad-free in response to OpenAI's plan to introduce ads. macOS: Share a Link That Jumps to a Specific Line on a Webpage
Sometimes when you share a webpage link with someone, you just want to bring their attention to a specific passage or sentence to make your point, rather than have them read through the entire article. In 2020, Google added a function to its Chrome browser called Scroll to Text Fragment (STTF) that helps you achieve this. It allows URLs to link directly to any visible text on a page. You may have seen it work in Google Search, where clicking on a link in your returned results takes you to a highlighted passage of text further down the page. Google later added the feature to the Chromium codebase, so most other popular Chromium browsers like Edge, Opera, Brave, and Vivaldi also support it. Here's how it works. Copy Link With Highlight in Safari Apple added full support for text fragment links in Safari 18, and the feature is available in Safari on macOS Sequoia and later. To use the feature, visit a web page and simply highlight the text you want to create a link to, then right-click (Ctrl-click) and choose Copy Link with Highlight from the dropdown menu. The "Copy Link to Highlight" option This will generate a special URL that includes a hash (#) symbol and "text" element, followed by a few words that bookend the selected text. All you need to do is share the link with someone, and when they click it they will be sent directly to that part of the webpage with the specific passage highlighted, as shown below. The shared link as the recipient sees it That's all there is to it. The Copy Link to Highlight option is also available in Safari on iPhone and iPad, though we have found it to be buggy and inconsistent in iOS 26.3. Hopefully Apple can fix it soon. At least on Mac, it makes it easier for you to direct the recipient of the link to the content you actually want them to focus on. Bear in mind that the look of highlighted text can differ depending on whether the page author has styled it to look a certain way. Also, text fragment linking does not work in PDFs. Samsung Planning to Follow iPhone 18 Pro's Variable Aperture Camera
Samsung is planning to follow Apple in adding a variable aperture to its smartphone cameras, Korea's ET News reports. A variable aperture allows the camera to adjust the amount of light that reaches the sensor. This means that in dark environments, the aperture can be opened to receive more light, while in light environments, it can be closed to prevent over-exposure. It also should provide users with greater control over depth of field, which refers to how sharp a subject appears in the foreground compared to the background. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are now widely expected to feature an upgraded main camera with a variable aperture. In December 2024, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was first to say that that the main rear camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models will offer variable aperture. A more recent report from October 2025 said Apple was moving ahead with plans to bring the technology to next-generation iPhones and was discussing components with suppliers. Apple has never used a variable aperture on an iPhone camera before. The main cameras on all of the iPhone 14 Pro through iPhone 17 Pro models have a fixed aperture of ƒ/1.78, and the lens is always fully open and shooting with this aperture. Samsung Electronics previously brought a variable aperture camera to its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10 models in 2018 and 2019, but due to increased thickness and high price, it dropped the feature in 2020. In light of Apple's plans, Samsung has reportedly asked multiple camera module partners to develop variable apertures and provide samples. The feature is in early development and final installation has not yet been confirmed, but there is said to be a "strong will" to introduce it. Samsung apparently sees adding a variable aperture as "necessary to increase camera competitiveness," replacing software correction with physical hardware. The company hopes that in investing in variable aperture camera technology, thickness can be reduced and costs will reduce over time. Apple reportedly plans to release a new Studio Display in the first half of 2026, and there have been plenty of rumors about the monitor lately. Below, we recap the latest Studio Display 2 rumors:In his Power On newsletter on Sunday, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said he was told the new Studio Display "looks quite similar to the current one," so that seemingly rules out any major design changes. It has twice been rumored that the Studio Display 2's maximum refresh rate will be 90Hz, instead of 120Hz. The current model is 60Hz. Last month, an unreleased Apple monitor (model A3350) surfaced in a Chinese regulatory database, and it is likely the Studio Display 2. Previously rumored features include a 27-inch screen with mini-LED backlighting, HDR support, and an A19 chip or an A19 Pro chip.The current Studio Display launched in March 2022, alongside the first Mac Studio. It has a 27-inch LCD screen with 5K resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, up to 600 nits brightness, a built-in camera and speakers, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and a trio of USB-C ports. In the U.S., pricing starts at $1,599. If the next Studio Display receives mini-LED backlighting and HDR support, its maximum brightness and contrast ratio would be higher than the current model. And a newer A19 or A19 Pro chip — up from the A13 Bionic currently — should contribute to performance improvements, camera-related enhancements, and more. Apple Says These 7 U.S. States Plan to Offer iPhone Driver's Licenses
In select U.S. states, residents can add their driver's license or state ID to the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone and Apple Watch, and then use it to display proof of identity or age at select airports and businesses, and in select apps. The feature is currently available in 13 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, and it is expected to launch in at least seven more in the future. To set up the feature, open the Wallet app and tap on the plus sign in the top-right corner. Next, select Driver's License and ID Cards and follow the steps. Supported States The following 13 states offer driver's licenses in the Wallet app:Arizona (since March 2022) Maryland (since May 2022) Colorado (since November 2022) Georgia (since May 2023) Ohio (since July 2024) Hawaii (since August 2024) California (since September 2024) Iowa (since October 2024) New Mexico (since December 2024)Montana (since August 2025) North Dakota (since September 2025) West Virginia (since October 2025) Illinois (since November 2025)The feature is also available in Puerto Rico.
