This video couldn’t be more timely, as I had to put together a bed frame, four bar stools, and some lights in the last couple of days. All three used allen, or hex key, fasteners. Of course the hex keys in my Kobalt 1/4 inch drive ratchet set were SAE and all these things had “metric” fasteners, but I made it work. The trick was to use the ratchet and hex key socket to get them snug and then give them a bit more with the hex key that came in the box with the fasteners. In theory that should help with not stripping out fasteners. And it did with a couple of small exceptions. But what if the fasteners you are using aren’t cheap, soft, furniture hardware? Instead of stripping the fastener, you might be stripping the edges off your tools. Derek Menholt enjoyed a tremendous regular season in the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Elite Motorsports, winning twice and taking the points lead into the Road to the Championship playoffs. But the five-race postseason starts this weekend as part of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park, and Menholt knows he has to prove himself all over again in the loaded class. This weekend’s event is the seventh of 11 races in the category during the 2026 campaign and this weekend’s race is powered by Polaris and presented by Jan-Cen Motorsports. Menholt won the opener in Gainesville and added another victory in Chicago, but with the points reset, he’ll have just a 20-point advantage over Mike Stavrinos starting this weekend in Norwalk. But the veteran Pro Mod racer is thrilled to have the lead heading into the playoffs, giving him the most ideal starting position over what will be five grueling races to end the year. “It’s exciting to head into the Road to the Championship as the points leader. We’ve worked hard all season to put ourselves in this position, but now the real battle begins,” Menholt said. “I’m really looking forward to racing at Norwalk. The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals is always a special race for six-time Pro Stock world champion Greg Anderson and this year’s trip to Summit Motorsports Park gives him a chance to add two more trophies to his extensive collection: the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout trophy and another NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Diamond Wally. Anderson, named one of NHRA Top 75 drivers, will have his pick of opponents in the eight-car field of the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout bonus race. He won the 2024 Callout and currently leads the Pro Stock points in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. To top it all off, he’ll be looking for his fourth career victory in Norwalk. “Well, any grudges you have against any other racer, you get to act on,” said Anderson. “At least in my case, I get first choice to pick out who I would like to try and even the score with or settle a score with – like a grudge match. So that’s always fun, and you don’t have to depend on any ladder to see who you get matched up with. You can decide who you want to race, so that’s cool to me. That’s fun, and it adds another layer of excitement that we don’t get at national events.” Last year, Justin Ashley (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Cory Reed (Pro Stock) and John Hall (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Anderson and his KB Titan teammates will be up against their longtime rivals from Elite Motorsports, with KB Titan having the higher seeds. A year ago, if you’d told a Pro Mod racer he might have two legitimate shots at a million dollars inside of six months, he’d have laughed you out of the pits. Not out of disrespect. Out of disbelief. That’s just not the world we’ve lived in. Well, that’s the world Jason Harris is living in right now. Harris earned his first crack at a million at our Drag Illustrated Winter Series, chasing the Elite Motorsports Million – a clean-sweep bonus for any driver who could win all three of our races. And now, with the new IHRA Triple Crown, he’s got another seven-figure opportunity sitting right there in front of him. Two swings at life-changing money before the calendar even turns. For a Pro Mod racer. Let that sink in. I couldn’t be happier about it. And I’ll tell you exactly why. For too long, money was the thing nobody in drag racing wanted to talk about. We whispered about payouts. We were almost embarrassed by them. Meanwhile, the American Cornhole League is handing out eight million dollars a year, a hot dog eating contest is paying six figures on Netflix, and there are rock-paper-scissors tournaments paying out more than some of our professional national events. That’s not a knock on cornhole. It’s a wake-up call for us. We all know what these guys and gals are spending. We know what it takes to build one of these cars, to tune it, to haul it across the country and put it on the property week after week. These are the baddest door cars on earth, driven by some of the most talented people in all of motorsports. The idea that the money shouldn’t match the spectacle never made sense to me. So we set out to change the conversation. To make the money something racers and fans were excited to talk about, proud to talk about – not afraid of, not embarrassed by. That was the whole point of the Elite Motorsports Million. We weren’t just putting up a prize. We were planting a flag. And here’s the part I’m most proud of: the conversation is actually changing. When you see another sanctioning body step up and put real money on the table for Pro Mod, that’s not something to be territorial about. That’s the tide coming in. That’s the whole sport getting louder about what these racers are worth. I’ve said it a hundred times and I’ll say it again – a high tide lifts all boats. More money in Pro Mod means more attention, more media, more sponsors looking at our world and deciding it’s worth investing in. Everybody wins when we start acting like we’re worth it. Now, let’s talk about the man himself, because Jason Harris is exactly the kind of racer you want carrying this moment. Since his dominating win at the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals late last year, Harris has become arguably the biggest name and the toughest out in Pro Mod. He’s not backing into these opportunities. He’s earning them, round after round, against the deepest fields and the best tuners our class has ever seen. When he rolls into the lights, everybody in the other lane knows they’ve got their work cut out for them. That’s what makes him so much fun to watch, and that’s what makes this whole thing feel real. Will it be easy? Hell no. We’re talking about stringing together round win after round win in the most competitive class in the world, where one tenth of hesitation or one bad set of conditions ends your day. That’s what makes it so exciting. If somebody pulls this off, they don’t just win a million dollars. They become an icon. A legend. The way Bill Elliott became “Million Dollar Bill” and dragged NASCAR into the national conversation. These are the moments that birth superstars and define legacies. And here’s the thing: I genuinely believe Jason Harris can do it. Not as a feel-good line. I mean it. He’s got the car, the team, the focus, and the kind of momentum you can’t manufacture. He’s racing like a man who knows exactly how big these moments are. So I’m going to be watching every round, pulling for him, and grinning like a kid the whole way. A Pro Mod racer with two shots at a million dollars in six months. That’s not a fantasy anymore. That’s where this sport is headed. And that, to me, is worth every single dollar. Due to potential inclement weather on Friday evening, NHRA announced an earlier start for Friday qualifying at the 20th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park to ensure all professional categories complete both scheduled qualifying sessions. The revised schedule moves the first round of NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying to 11:45 a.m. ET, starting with Pro Stock Motorcycle and Pro Stock, followed by Funny Car and Top Fuel. The second qualifying session is slated to start at 2:15 p.m. Gate opening times will remain unchanged. Two weeks ago, Ohioan Mark Pawuk, the two-time and reigning Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown world champion, showed flashes of improvement racing to the semifinals at the Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn. This weekend Pawuk along with a host of Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge factory stock competitors will be looking to stop 2026 points leader Jonathan Allegrucci who has won the past three national events in a row. Pawuk and his 2026 Empaco backed Dodge Charger will head to Summit Motorsports Park where he took the title last year after two previous runner-up finishes. “I finally got my ice cream scoop last year,” said Pawuk, of the custom ice cream scoop the track presents to all race winners. “That was on my bucket list, and I would love nothing more than to go back and run well this weekend. That scoop is 100 percent a display piece. If I stuck it in a gallon of ice cream, it would sink to the bottom it’s so heavy. That’s one of my prized possessions. Norwalk is the best track in the country.” For Pawuk, the racing experience is more than the performance on the track. He runs Empaco Equipment Corporation out of Richfield, Ohio. Since 1978 they have been providing quality construction, maintenance and service for the petroleum storage and dispensing industry. Beyond Empaco, his racing operation has enjoyed successful marketing relationships with several Ohio-based companies. “One thing that is special about Norwalk is a lot of my employees come out and support me,” said Pawuk. “They support me all year long while I’m away at the races, so I give them the opportunity at Norwalk to come out and spend a day with us. I think it’s pretty cool to host them and thank them for all their hard work. All my great sponsors are from the Ohio area including Mr. Heater, Ohio Cat and Ohio Peterbilt. Our big news this week is we just added Matco Tools for this race.” While Pawuk will be looking to get back on track, Allegrucci will be focused on maintaining his historic winning streak. Only one other driver, Leah Pruett in 2018, has won three Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series national events in a row and no driver has ever won four in a row. The driver from Scotts Township, Pa., has captured wins at the 4-Wide Nationals, the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 Nationals and most recently at the Thunder Valley Nationals. “This still feels like a dream coming true,” said Allegrucci, of his three-race win streak. “I can’t thank everyone enough who makes this happen. Everyone at KSR Racing – in and out of the shop – to everyone at home that helps while we’re gone, and everyone that comes to the track to make it all possible. It takes so many people to get us to and from the races. I am proud to be a part of this class and race with some of the great people we have met. I am especially excited to see Raymond Nash and the Underdawg Team having so much success.”As the points leader and most recent winner, Allegrucci is also protecting the Flexjet Bounty which has swelled to $3,000 to the driver that can defeat his Ford Mustang Cobra Jet on race day. So far Allegrucci has a 13-round win streak heading into the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals. Joining Pawuk in the chase to defeat Allegrucci is Thunder Valley Nationals runner-up Raymond Nash, driver of the Team Underdawg Racing Dodge Challenger. In Bristol, Nash earned his first career No. 1 qualifier and competed in just his second career final round coming up short against Allegrucci. For Nash and his family-run team, competing at this national level is a welcome challenge and dream come true. Qualifying will get underway on Friday for the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. On Saturday one more round of qualifying at 10:30 a.m. will set the 16-car field. The Fords, Chevrolets and Dodges will roll into the first round of eliminations on Saturday evening and wrap up with three more elimination rounds on Sunday. Tony Stewart Racing hits the halfway mark of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season with this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park (SMP). Leah Pruett and her Dodge//SRT Top Fuel team will be looking for their second win of the season while Matt Hagan and the Dodge//SRT Hellcat Funny Car team are looking for a second consecutive win, third of their 2026 season. Pruett is coming off a busy weekend at Bristol Dragway where she picked up her 13th victory on Friday evening when she defeated points leader Shawn Langdon in the postponed NHRA New England Nationals final. It was her first win since returning to the seat after becoming a mother. “Winning Epping in Bristol, for me personally was probably the most profound win. Bigger than my first one, bigger than U.S. Nationals in Factory Stock, a double up in Dallas with Hagen, which was at the top of my all-time wins. This one just really stands out because of how we got there,” Pruett said. “From a team perspective, my evolution as a driver coming back into the seat, the things that I struggled with, the things that I focused hard on to maintain and capture and improve on.” Pruett went on to secure the Thunder Valley Nationals No. 1 qualifying position, the 17th of her career, second of the season before having a second-round exit during Sunday’s eliminations. The Dodge Top Fuel team continues to impress reaching the midway point of the season, not having conceded a first-round loss. “Me specifically in the car this year, having to re-calibrate myself – my emotions, my intensity, my focus. We came up with a plan. We had a crew chief-driver full conversation intervention that was data-backed. You can’t have perfection without progress,” said Pruett “I’ve been working on my reaction times. I’ve been working at getting them in the low .070s, coming into this weekend in Norwalk, hopefully I’ll live in the .060s. That’s been the systematic strategic goal. We’re not going to win a championship .072-ing them to death. That’s not going to work. My team is giving me the best race car, and I’ve got to get those lights down so that I can give them my best.” The last time Pruett raced at SMP was in 2023 when she dominated the weekend as the Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier and went on to win the event for her 11th career victory defeating Kyle Wurtzel, Mike Salinas, Austin Prock and Justin Ashley along the way. Pruett will start competition this weekend lined up against a familiar foe in qualifying, her husband, Tony Stewart. “When we go to Norwalk, Tony and I will be against each other in Q1 as we have been for a number of races,” Pruett said. “Trust me, fans, we’re not trying to not run each other. We’re trying to run each other just later on in the day on Sundays.” Pruett’s Funny Car teammate Matt Hagan is also coming of a victorious weekend. The four-time world champion dominated the Thunder Valley Nationals entering race day as the No. 1 qualifier. He defeated Jon Capps, earned a bye run into the semi-finals where he took down two-time and reigning world champion Austin Prock before denying Daniel Wilkerson his first career Funny Car victory. “The win in Bristol had so much excitement, especially with the JHG crew being there and then attending their open house last Friday near Nashville. It was great to get to celebrate with everyone and it really made it come full circle,” Hagan said. “We’re definitely carrying momentum into Norwalk, which seems to be another hot tricky racetrack sometimes, but you know one thing about SMP and (track owner) Bill Bader is they put on an awesome event. They’ll fill the stands and that’s why we have to make sure we put on a great show.” Hagan’s win at Bristol Dragway extended to 14 the number of consecutive seasons in which he has won multiple events in the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. He first hoisted the NHRA 75th Anniversary Diamond Wally alongside team owner Tony Stewart earlier this year at the Winternationals. The 57-time event winner has had only one first-round exit so far this season and his No.1 qualifying position also extended his streak of seasons with at least one start from the top spot to 14. “The momentum and success so far this year has been great,” said Hagan who jumped from fourth to second in the Funny Car points standings with his last win. “We’ve been in some really difficult conditions and I think that’s why you’ve seen different winners throughout the season, there’s not just been somebody that’s just dominating. Our team has done a really impressive job of adapting. Hopefully that reigns true this weekend in Ohio too.” Off the dragstrip, Hagan will be participating in the intense and entertaining ice cream eating contest that has become synonymous with SMP and the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals. “I’ve been training. My son has been helping me, feeding me ice cream between push-ups and sit-ups, between sets on the punching bags. We’ve been watching past contests and taking notes. It’s going to be a big ordeal,” Hagan said. “Competition is competition. I don’t care if we’re eating ice cream, racing lawn mowers or Fuel Funny Cars, winning is winning. Have to get those bragging rights. Jianna [Evaristo] (Pro Stock Motorcycle) is the reigning three-time champ, we’ve got to take her down. Time for a regime change. I think I got this. I mean a pint of ice cream is a handful to me so let’s go!” Competition at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park begins with four rounds of qualifying Friday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at Noon and 2:30 p.m. Eliminations are slated for Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Television coverage of the event will be on Sunday with a qualifying show at noon ET on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). Clay Millican has a lot of stops he enjoys on the NHRA Mission Drag Series tour, including the most recent event in Bristol. This weekend’s fan-favorite 20th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park also qualifies as one, leaving the Top Fuel veteran equal parts hopeful and excited heading to the halfway point of NHRA’s 75th anniversary season in 2026. Millican and his Rick Ware Racing team haven’t hit their stride yet this year in the team’s 12,000-horsepower Summit Racing Equipment dragster, but a breakout performance in Norwalk would be welcomed by all. Millican is confident it’s coming and doing so at a standout facility that has treated him well over the years would be a massive boost heading into a critical point of the 2026 campaign. “We got close to getting that ice cream scoop (trophy) last year,” said Millican, who fell in the final round in Norwalk to Justin Ashley last year. “I definitely want to get it this year and that Diamond Wally (for NHRA’s 75th anniversary season). “The Bader family is amazing. I grew up in a family business and going there reminds me of that. It makes it feel like home.” Last year, Ashley (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Cory Reed (Pro Stock) and John Hall (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. This year’s race will again be broadcast on FOX, with qualifying and the GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout coverage on FS1 and eliminations on FOX at 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 28. It is the 10th of 20 races during the 2026 season and this weekend’s event also features the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout bonus race and the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle. For Millican, the weekend represents trying to get on track and putting together consistent runs as the Countdown to the Championship playoffs get closer. Transitioning to a canopy car has meant some bumps in the road through the first nine races, as the veteran is currently 10th in points. But they’ve made strides in recent weeks, winning rounds in Maryland and Epping after a semifinal appearance in Valdosta. Bristol didn’t go as planned, but Millican believes the team is on the verge of breaking through in a big way. It will take a big effort to win in Norwalk against a loaded Top Fuel lineup that includes points leader Shawn Langdon, who has advanced to the final round at eight of the past nine races, reigning world champ Doug Kalitta, racing legend Tony Stewart, Bristol winner Antron Brown, Epping winner Leah Pruett, Ashley and Josh Hart. Millican, though, remains confident his team can make some noise at America’s Racetrack, which would bode well for him for multiple reasons. “I do feel we are getting closer to learning what these canopy cars like,” said Millican, who has eight career NHRA victories. “None of our tuners have ever run one before this year and it does change the way we run our car. “(But) it is the time of year to start getting your ducks in a row and making moves towards consistency.” Funny Car’s Prock will look for back-to-back Norwalk wins, this time with Tasca Racing. Other marquee names in the class include points leader Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, who won in Bristol, J.R. Todd, Epping winner Jack Beckman, class newcomer Jordan Vandergriff, Alexis DeJoria and Chad Green, who has two wins in 2026. Matt Hartford won in Bristol and is also the reigning winner in the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout. He’ll look to repeat and sweep the weekend against a Callout field of Greg Anderson, who is the top seed and has the first pick, reigning world champ Dallas Glenn, Eric Latino, Greg Stanfield, Enders, Aaron Stanfield and Jeg Coughlin. Hall wants a repeat Pro Stock Motorcycle win in Norwalk against a talented field that includes points leader and reigning world champ Richard Gadson, Angie Smith, Gaige Herrera, Chase Van Sant, Steve Johnson, Jianna Evaristo and Ryan Oehler. Race fans also get to see action in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the JBS Equipment NHRA Pro Mod Series and Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown. Norwalk race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk and congratulate the winners at the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday. As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. They can visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere. (Photos by Neal Sabo) When BANGshifter Neal Sabo said he was going to head down to Buckeye Skips 2025 Drag and Drive, to snap pictures and check out the cool stuff going on, we were like “Hell yeah!” He hit all three days, at Darana Dragway at Dragway 42, Quaker Dragway, and Kuhnle Motorsports Park and got all kinds of cool photos. He hit the checkpoints and the tracks and said it was an epic trip. The weather was pretty good, if not a bit cold at Kuhnle, but the racing was hot for sure. And then Neal got home, went through the photos, and sent me files on our dropbox. And that’s where yours truly dropped the ball. For some reason all these great photos never got posted and when we talked to Buckeye Skip himself about coming to cover the 2026 event, he asked what every happened to our 2025 coverage. Luckily Neal has no fear of throwing me under the bus when I deserve it, and I don’t have trouble taking responsibility, so we’re making up for it now!
